“Good location but rooms very variable”

We stayed here on a group holiday, lovely town and a great location, easy walk into the town with a superb choice of restaurants.
Rooms are very variable, some light and quiet with lovely views of the town wall and countryside but ours overlooked a busy street with cobbles and was painted in a deep red colour that was like sleeping in a bottle of wine that had been open for several days, it was very cramped for a double and very hot. (Tourte des Vallees). Ask to see the room before you decide to stay.

“Great value for money, clean and convenient”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

The hotel is located just within the town wall, at the edge of the town centre. Very short walk from the train station, and it's beside a COCO LM bredele shop!

We stayed in the Stork Room with one double bed, one single bed and to our surprised, a baby cot with a large Alsace stork soft toy.

The hotel is spacious, very clean with minimalist design. Most furnitures are from Ikea but I have no complain here because the bed is very comfortable. Lots of power points which we really like since we are travelling in a group of 3 adults. We didn't need to wait for one another to finish charging the handphone, camera battery, ipad etc. We could even each charge two electronics at the same time!

The facilities, in my view, is even better than some of the 3 or 4 stars hotels we stayed in other parts of Alsace, at a fraction of the price.

This hotel definitely gets two thumbs up from me.

“Great location and more!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

We stayed here for 2 nights in October and found the hotel to be very conveniently located and yet charming. Yes, it has been updated on the inside but the exterior is still authentic. Our room still felt old world. Our room was small as are most European rooms but very clean. Yes, no elevator but we were use to this during our travels. Location is very central and made for easy access to everything. On-site secured parking is a deal, too. Staff were friendly. We did not eat here but rather, found local tea/coffee cafes very affordable and spent one morning over crossants and tea with other locals watching the world cup match. Overall, great stay!

“Great place to stay in Obernai!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

The le Gouverneur is housed in an old building built into the Obernai town walls. The interior is fully renovated with quite modern furniture, though. We had an enormous room with an anteroom (I think they may have upgraded us, otherwise it was a tremendous value for what we paid!) The room was kind of noisy by day, because bus tours got their orientation lectures right under our window, and school kids played before and after school, but things quieted down at night, so it wasn't a real problem. The staff we met was young, and very friendly and willing to help. We liked the town, and would stay here again if we return.

“Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

We returned to Le Gouverneur after a 25 year absence during a month long cycling trip retracing our honeymoon. What was once a charming albiet in-need-of-an-update hotel has now had all the charm updated right out of it, although there is still no elevator to get your bags up the stairs. The building exterior is all that remains of our memories of staying here before. Our room was cramped and sterile, and the air conditioner didn't cool the room. At check-in, the receptionist scared us by saying that our bags hadn't been delivered- they had. The breakfast room was bright and sunny, but the staff was overwhelmed by a large German tour group, so there were no clean tables, no plates, and little food. Even for 80 Euros (breakfast no included), we expected more.
