Just across from the Railway Station we were greeted with a glass of wine . The Hotel is currently undergoing refurbishment and our room , on the unrefurbished third floor , whilst clean and comfortable , was showing its age.
However , it was perfectly adequate and we had a pleasant meal in their restaurent in the evening and slept well.
Breakfast was good with a wide selection. The croissants and pastries were exceptional and in true french tradition (Liberty etc etc ) , we liberated some for our mid morning snack on the train.
Could not comment on the town but some of our less weary travellors ate in the town and were complimentary.

Asked for a privilege room with a view over the green square to the station and got it.

Refurbished room was very nice, but was let down by poor aircondirtioning. The room was too hot most of the night. Not helped by an unusually high daytime temperature (for early April) the day we arrived.

Apart from that our stay was perfect. Refurbished bathroom was beautiful and we got all out 'privilege' items except we were not offered the 'free glass of wine' with our meal (as it was warm and Humid we didn't actually want wine.)

Oddly though I wanted 'Biere d'Alsace' but all they had in 'pression' was Pelforth (a northern French beer) or Heineken!

I stayed for one night at the Mercure Mulhouse Centre hotel, and I would never recommend it to anybody (unless it is renovated). The entrance was okay, but when you enter the elevator, you start suspecting what the rooms will be like...

...and mine was disgusting! I have stayed at hundreds hotels , B&B's and motels, but I have never had such a room anywhere. The room hadn't seen paint or wallpaper in decades, everything was dirty!

If I hadn't arrived late in the night, I would have changed hotel immediately, but I was too tired. Next morning I went to Hotel du Parc, where I had stayed earlier as well, and I was happy rest of the trip :)

PS. Of course your experience depends on your expectations, somebody may find this hotel okay, but if you want a clean room, I strongly suggest you choose another hotel.

This is not a luxury hotel but, contrary to previous reviews, we found it clean and the staff friendly and helpful. The breakfast was standard Mercure and quite good, in a pleasant room with a view over the park across the street. There is heavy traffic in the front of the hotel but soundproofing is good if the windows are closed. The hotel is air conditioned.

For those travelling by train it is a two minute walk from the station.

Mulhouse is an interesting town with the old section pedestrian only and a very modern tramway system. There are also fabulous railway and automobile museums.

An excellent choice for those who require convenience and modest accommodation. It could be used as a base for exploring the Alsace wine routes. There is parking behind.
