We recently spent four nights at Le Roi Theodore and had a very positive experience. Although the hotel is situated on an unattractive road, near a large supermarket on the outskirts of Porto Vecchio, inside the gate, it is very pleasant. This hotel would make a good base for excursions round the island for anyone with a car. It is not well situated, however, for those without their own means of transport, as taxis seem very hard to obtain in the area.
We had a pleasant, ground-floor room with a terrace. The fixtures and fittings were not first class, but the heating worked well and we had no complaints. The weather during our stay was cold and rainy, but the bar cum library had a warm fire in the evenings and we enjoyed an excellent dinner on two occasions. The food was beautifully presented; served in a polite and timely manner and tasted delicious. Dinner is a little on the expensive side, but was well worth it. All hotel staff were at all times above averagely friendly and helpful.
Our only complaint about this hotel was that breakfast was generally poor and on the last day of our stay, when we tried to get something at the official start-time of 0730, nothing had yet been laid out.
Because it was winter, we did not use the pool or spa facilities or the outdoor leisure area, but everything looked very nice. There are some problems with the interior plasterwork, leading to a few holes here and there and some mouldy corners. This is a common problem with this type of building in a damp climate and I don't think it's indicative of neglect. We saw floors being thoroughly washed every day and all areas of the hotel were clean - just a little run-down in places. We would certainly stay there again.
