“Extremely Disappointing Hotel”

This hotel promised so much, and delivered very little. It is far from the centre of Porto Vecchio, up an uninspiring road, with only a pizzeria of the plastic chair variety around the corner for company.

We had booked a "privilege room" but I would have named it a "Holiday Inn" Room completely with nasty synthetic bedspread.

The grounds were depressing and needed attention, the whole mood of the place was off - felt like a reasonable hotel fallen on hard times / ghost hotel.

The biggest issue here was the price. When compared with what else was on offer around the area (but sadly booked up) or to London hotels, this came up massively short - a beautiful room at Claridges would be significantly cheaper than this place and worth twice as much.

In the end, my boyfriend and I were so depressed by Roc e Fiori that we went back to Bonifacio and stayed there, leaving our synthetic bedsheet and 1980s bathroom untouched.

“Only for the 100% able bodied!”

We requested four nights for mid april directly with this hotel and because my wife has a problem climbing stairs we specifically asked for a ground floor room.We were told that ' all rooms are at ground floor level' so we confirmed the reservation and paid the 30% deposit requested.
On arrival we found that all of the rooms are accesible only by flights of steep stone steps with no hand rails, this ruled out any possibility of us staying.
The hotel is on a rocky hillside and only the main building and reception area are at the car park level. All the rooms plus the pool and terrace areas are accessed by steep stone steps. One of the rooms we were offered even had some of these to reach various levels inside the room.
The managment refused to refund our deposit and a subsequent e-mail requesting that they refund at least part of it has not been answered.
The only positive comment is that tthey did assist us to find another hotel.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2007

This was a major disappointment and very bad value. Service was friendly but not overly helpful as we realised on arrival - complete with toddler and luggage. The room was very average -more akin to a beach bungalow with basic bathroom and amenities- the terrace outside was decked in unfinished splintering timber and adorned with one empty planter and another full of weeds. The grounds (including pool area and furniture) need some serious investment, weeding and general tlc. Ironically the interior of the main building was clean and comfortable with many varied reception rooms. The obligatory half board dinner was fine and the service friendly if understaffed - the atmosphere was better in the restaurant downstairs as opposed to the large function room upstairs. Breakfast was basic.

In short this is in a quiet and useful location for the beach but thats about it.

“Disappointed”

We visited this hotel in June 2006 and were very disappointed with it.Being a member of the Chateuax & Hotels of France group this hotel promised plenty but failed badly. The inside of the main building housing the reception and restaurant is tidy and well maintained.Apart from this though the place is tatty and neglected.Peeling paint, ancient and rotting outdoor furniture, weeds every where. In our room, the entrance to which had large lumps of plaster missing from the walls and ceiling, cupboards did'nt close or fit properly, there was no handle on the inside of the bathroom door where the window was broken and the mirror was hanging dangerously off the wall.A strong smell of paint on our terrace resulted from a stack of half empty paint tins and thinners on the other side of the wall.Missing and broken tiles and rusting metalwork are in abundance. The swimming pool itself is pleasant enough but with dated and faded furniture and no parasols or shade it holds no allure. In the five days we stayed here(we had originally booked seven) no one was seen using it.At this time of year guests are forced to pay for half board and though the chef "tries" this is best avoided as the restuarant has all the atmosphere of a morgue. We felt sorry for the young attentive staff who do their best but looking around at our fellow guests,no-one seemed to be enjoying themselves. We are not hotel snobs we enjoy all levels and standards of hotels and travel widely and we love Corsica but this place needs a serious amount of money and time spending on it to bring it up to anything like a good enough standard, particularly to be included in any sort of prestigious hotel group.Until then Avoid!

“Excellent hotel”

We stayed a week at the Roc e Fiori in the middle of June and what a wonderful find this hotel was. It is in a small hamlet just 5 minutes from the town and very near some wonderful beaches. The hotel's rooms are set on two levels around a garden, all having a terrace. Our room was large with a beautfully comfortable bed. The bathroom was huge with double sinks, robes, and slippers. It was very well serviced twice a day and they even supplied a nightly weather report for the next day on your pillow. The whole place is quirky and interesting with lots of little nooks and crannies. Go round a corner in the main building and you find a staircase leading to a little alcove with a comfy sofa and bookshelves or a set of antique armchairs with a dice game to play. The pool is free form set above the main building and with a lovely view. Most of the time we were there we had it to ourselves as the season really doesn't take off until the middle of July but despite the heat there were no parasols and none apparently available. But again around the pool there are 2 half hidden jacuzzis and chairs with cushions. Breakfast is served on the terrace by the pool. We had half board and the daily menu was fabulous. Four courses of beautful, interesting food. The desserts alone were spectacular. However sometimes the chef did let his imagination run away with him as the stufffed squid with coconut rice pudding showed!. The people were lovely. They were very friendly and anxious to practice their English despite our attempts at French and the service couldn't have been bettered. There is also a very friendly local bar/pizzeria next door to the hotel .We would have no hesitation in going there again, particularly at the same time of year.
