“Pleasant hotel with good views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

Only a one night stay so not a complete 'exposure'. Arrived early afternoon and had to wait 20 minutes or so while room made ready. They upgraded me from sea view to 'panoramic' sea view. One floor up basically! It is a good view of the bay and the Citadel - the primary tourist site in town.
Some decent restaurants in town and the hotel breakfast (though expensive at 12 Euros) costs no more if you have it delivered to your room.
Room well equipped, fairly spacious. Nothing to complain about, would stay there again.

“Modern, clean and friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

This was a lovely hotel, modern, clean and staff were friendly and helpful.
The room was spacious and the bathroom again very modern.
Beautiful pool but unfortunately we had only a brief stay so were unable to enjoy it.
There is parking available as well.

“Spa not free”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

Fantastic views of citadel, good but expensive breakfast. There's one caveat though. Don't book this hotel for the spa. You have to pay an extra €35 to use the sauna and steamroom. I kid you not!! This was not mentioned on website and we were very disappointed. Nice and clean but a better welcome would work. Nice pool as well. Top tip: buy a bottle of champagne and watch the sun go down on the citadel from your balcony.

“Excellent hotel let down by reception staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

The Hotel Regina is a modern, stylish hotel with excellent amenities. It is well worth the extra cost of a room on the top floor as the views across Calvi Bay to the mountains beyond are stunning. My wife and I stayed in a suite with a large balcony. The room was not luxurious but comfortable and met our requirements.

The bar/restaurant and cleaning staff were very efficient and friendly. Unfortunately this could not be said of the reception staff, who were indifferent at best and bordering on the rude at worst. There was no warm welcome here and barely a response to our cheery bon jours or bon soirs as we passed the desk. I recommend that the staff are sent to the Hotel Le Cavendish at Cannes to learn how a reception desk should operate!

“Fabulous Views of Citadel and Bay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2011

The best feature of this hotel is the view you get from a fourth floor room – a truly spectacular vista of Calvi and the bay area, providing you ignore the fairly grotty buildings and car park immediately below the swimming pool. The hotel itself is fairly basic but is modern and perfectly adequate. Rooms are spacious and the bathrooms are large with excellent quality fittings. There is an excellent basement garage where your car can be left undercover and out of the sun. There is free wifi but the connection keeps cutting out and is somewhat frustrating to use.
The staff are for the most part friendly but when our room had not been serviced by three in the afternoon and we enquired very politely when we might expect a maid we were met with a surly response from the receptionist.
It is well situated, being a five to ten minute walk down to the town centre and the Citadel. When walking into the town it is a good idea to go down in the lift to the garage level and exit the hotel through there. This is particularly true for the walk back as it saves climbing up fifty or more stairs. You will need your plastic key though to enter the garage from the street. There is a swimming pool but there is very little shade and an umbrella is essential if you burn easily in the hot summer sun. We did not use the restaurant as there are so many to choose from in the town and the hotel restaurant didn’t seem very inviting. The breakfast was very good and although priced at €12 is still pretty good value.
To summarise this hotel is a good place to stay for a few days to look around Calvi and is very good value for money, but on the downside the service is not particularly good and the hotel seems quite unfriendly and lacking any character.

Room Tip: Try to get a fourth floor room for the view
