The best feature of this hotel is the view you get from a fourth floor room – a truly spectacular vista of Calvi and the bay area, providing you ignore the fairly grotty buildings and car park immediately below the swimming pool. The hotel itself is fairly basic but is modern and perfectly adequate. Rooms are spacious and the bathrooms are large with excellent quality fittings. There is an excellent basement garage where your car can be left undercover and out of the sun. There is free wifi but the connection keeps cutting out and is somewhat frustrating to use.
The staff are for the most part friendly but when our room had not been serviced by three in the afternoon and we enquired very politely when we might expect a maid we were met with a surly response from the receptionist.
It is well situated, being a five to ten minute walk down to the town centre and the Citadel. When walking into the town it is a good idea to go down in the lift to the garage level and exit the hotel through there. This is particularly true for the walk back as it saves climbing up fifty or more stairs. You will need your plastic key though to enter the garage from the street. There is a swimming pool but there is very little shade and an umbrella is essential if you burn easily in the hot summer sun. We did not use the restaurant as there are so many to choose from in the town and the hotel restaurant didn’t seem very inviting. The breakfast was very good and although priced at €12 is still pretty good value.
To summarise this hotel is a good place to stay for a few days to look around Calvi and is very good value for money, but on the downside the service is not particularly good and the hotel seems quite unfriendly and lacking any character.
Room Tip: Try to get a fourth floor room for the view
