If we had consulted the Trip Advisor reviews before we arrived, we would probably not have come. In this case, ignorance proved the best strategy - for otherwise we would have missed a noble hotel with serious charm and one of the best restaurants that we have found travelling extensively in Corsica.
Yes, we were surprised too by the location - parallel to Calvi Airport's one runway rather than 'pieds dans l'eau.' However, Calvi Airport is not JFK nor Heathrow and, as for 'pieds dans l'eau' the hotel has a nifty solution - it's own private beach complete with free parking, first class food and direct lounger service. And, even if there had been a problem, we are sure that the extremely friendly and personable hotel personnel would have dealt with it efficiently and immediately. (We had a problem with internet access in our room which found an interim solution immediately (on a sunday) and a more durable solution the next day).
Disappointments? The pool needs a railing to help the less agile into the pool; two of the four jacuzzi buttons weren't functioning and an adjacent golf course, rather than the aiport, would have been nice (the nearest is a 30-40 minute drive away). As for the price - nobody ever claimed paradise would be cheap - although, at these levels, entry into paradise should more properly have come with a personal greeting from the hotel owners.

Beautiful grounds, charming old buildings and decor if you don't mind worn antiques. Lots of charm. Excellent cuisine. Very competent and pleasant staff. Good Spa.

Wasps. All over. They trive around the pool. On the breakfast buffet table the food is covered by feasting wasps. Disgusting to say the least. It is impossible to eat or drink anything outdoors because of the pests. This is obviously dangerous not only because it hurts a lot when they sting but they also bring germs on the food. The tiled roofs must probably harbour nests which they should do something about. We are told this situation lasts the whole summer so, maybe, if you must, you can visit here at another time of the year.

Fabulous, ever-changing views cannot save La Signoria, sadly. Our room was damp and gloomy, the noise from the airport - while not constant - is a downer. The poolside service was lamentable. The presence of an Ipod dock in every room means you have to listen to others' music on your balcony.

But the prices are the real shocker. Bellini = E24, Club Sandwich E32. Just ridiculous. It feels as if they are trading on past glories - but, that said, the hotel was full so what do I know?

My husband has put his remarks about this hotel but I have added the photos of the damp walls and ceiling in our room (Number 5). Why stay here when you can't get to the sea without a car or even see it from the grounds or your room. Calvi is so beautiful but you wouldn't know it from staying at this hotel - it's too far out. The beach at Calvi is so gorgeous but this hotel's beach bar was the only one closed when we went down there.
