This was a last minute decision for me I tagged along with a friend and her son she found this hotel online and it was perfect! I called them beforehand to see if they had a room and they were so warm on the telephone. This is a family run business and the location is perfect. My room was lovely beautiful view to the port, clean, air conditioning, shower and balcony. We were picked up from the port at no cost by Evagelos. On arrival we met his lovely wife Antonia and their son Panos, now this guy is a legend!!! He made my stay so enjoyable.
Ios is an island where a lot of young people visit, so I liked staying a few minutes out of the main town as it gets quite noisy at night. The fantastic thing about this hotel is that the bus stop is right outside the door and buses run every 15 minutes. You can walk to the port and you can walk to the main town. I bused it to the main town as it is about 15 minutes, and taxi gets you home late at night for next to nothing which is fantastic.
Now Panos is a computer genius. There is wifi everywhere around the hotel, I had it in my room, on my balcony, by the pool, while having breakfast which was totally awesome as I had to also work so it made it all that more enjoyable as I could work anywhere around the hotel.
My travel adaptor stopped working and was nearly in tears thinking how I was going to charge my phone and laptop until I could buy another one as there was no way the main town has any computer or electrical stores. I went to reception to ask if anybody had an iphone charger and Panos - the legend - actually had a whole box of adaptors!!! He gave me a new adaptor which I still have so problem solved! He also printed off my ticket and took me out to a lovely restaurant called Unique overlooking the town on top of the mountain with spectacular views and fantastic food.
Speaking of food if you want traditional Greek food in the main town go to The Nest Taverna, it's a family run business with home cooked Greek meals. We ate there when we could, great value for money and delicious. Try to avoid going to any coffee shops or restaurants run by young kids as the service is terrible. They are too hung over to serve you!
I went to a beach about an hour away which was nice, but preferred the beach at the port which was quite close as it was quiet with not many young people as they flock to the main beach which is about five minutes by bus.
Breakfast was very basic, but you don't need much to get full. I tried the little toasts they had and now I'm addicted and buy them from the supermarket as they are quite filling, with cheese and ham. There's also fruit and cereal, but no eggs or bacon or a selection of cereal if you prefer a certain brand. I was happy with what I had for breakfast with coffee.
The pool area is fantastic, huge pool with a bar and food so you can hang there all day and not leave as you get everything there.
I would love to come back just to visit the family and area again, it is a very young island with lots of teenagers and kids up until their late 20's, but they don't arrive into the main town to party until late by then I had my meal and was back in the hotel calling it a night.
I loved this place as I mentioned before as it had a glorious view, wonderful hosts, and it was accessible to lots of things quite easily. The last thing I wanted was to wait in the hot sun for a bus, I waited in the shade of the hotel until the bus arrived at their doorstep.
I met some Aussie guys at the hotel as well and hooked up with them in Santorini and we hung together for a few days. There's a good vibe at that hotel even the tourists are friendly!
You won't be disappointed and give Panos a huge hug from Betty for me! :) xxxx
Room Tip: Ask for a view to the port
