Last Stop Ambledown Brook - "a unique bed and breakfast". That, was exactly what we got. Located approximately 22 kilometres away from Canberra City and surrounded by farms and vineyards - Last Stop is home to 3 vintage train carriages. These carriages have been converted into very unique and comfortable accommodations. Ours was carriage XBS2162 - a 1935 wood panelled carriage.
One of our first discoveries about the place upon our arrival (in the late afternoon) is that it gets really really dark. This can be a good or bad thing, depending on which perspective you choose to look at it from. For star gazers and anyone wanting to be close to nature, you'll find yourself right smack at home. But if you're used to the comforts of modern amenities, you'll find yourself rather lost.
For us, the experience of getting dinner wasn't all that great, since you'll pretty much be driving the only vehicle for miles before reaching the nearest town. The only other option other than driving out would be that you pack food before getting there, as this place does not come equipped with a place to cook.
Anyway, first light in the morning changed everything. We awoke to a wonderful and breath-taking scenery - which included a family of kangaroos hopping around in the wild. This was topped up with a great meal - B&B style, served by our very hospitable hosts, Jenny and David.
We arrived at Last Stop a little apprehensive due to it's slightly remote location, but left the place thoroughly blessed by the experience! We even told ourselves we'd come back again if possible, on our next road trip maybe. If you find yourself nearby Canberra, we highly recommend that you literally go out of the way to check this place out! You'll need to see this place for yourself to know what we're raving about.
