“Never bored!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2012

I arranged to go to center parcs for my 30th birthday staying Friday-Monday. We were a group of 15 so stayed in two of the four bedroomed executive woodland lodges and could not fault any of it. The activities the group took part in included aerial adventure (recommended), swimming, falconry, adventure golf and the spa. All of them were great with wonderfully knowledgeable staff who ensured we all had a great time. I've been to center parcs before but there were a few in the group who didn't know what to expect and all of them had a marvellous time.

The lodges were comfortable, warm, clean and extremely well equipped. They felt so isolated we didn't even see our neighbours once and center parcs put us at the end of a row of lodges so when we had a party there were no complaints. I was expecting it to be absolutely overun with people with it being half term but half the time it felt like we had the village to ourselves!

The only thing we had a major problem with was some of the signage, which had us getting lost a lot. I would recommend always taking a map with you however, if you do get lost you'll never find yourself far from guest services who were always extremely helpful. I'd also recommend you do plan plan plan what you'll be doing before going as some of our party were hoping to book on some things when they got there, despite me telling them otherwise. The beauty of center parcs is that it does make it really easy to organise a large group of people who want to do different things. Some people did moan about having to pay for everything in advance but I have to say, I liked this about it as it means you know exactly what you're doing and don't have to worry about anything.

Wonderful break and one we'll never forget. My only other complaint is that it went far too fast!

Room Tip: Lodges 719 and 720 in the pine area are equi-distant between the country club and the village square...

“Center Parcs Sherwood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2012

Stayed in one of the new refurbished lodges this time and the improvement made it worth leaving the dog in kennels, it was a much nicer environment as the dog friendly ones were showing their age when we were there last time so this time was lovely to have a nicer environment. The tv in the master bedroom was a bonus as we get to escape endless disney channel, and generally the whole experience was very enjoyable, including being able to swim outside till around 9pm in the dark, with the coloured effect lights on and the steam different colours coming off the pool, lovely. Its a great family experience and we will definitely go back again

Room Tip: All are fab, don't have anything to add

Thanks for posting on Trip Advisor.

I am pleased that you liked our New Style lodges and especially the extra TV in the bedroom.

It’s great that you all enjoyed swimming in the pool at night time with the different coloured lighting.

Once again, thanks for posting and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Kind regards

“Half Term Weekend”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2012

We went, we had fun and we came home again. Overall impression was average.

Friends have loved their trips to Center Parcs and despite looking at many times we were always put off by the price but we finally found something that was not too overpriced. We booked a 3 bedroom comfort (the most basic) villa with friends a few weeks beforehand for around £560. For comparison we have stayed in NT cottages in Scotland for a week costing around £300.

The check-in process was simple and effective. We followed the signs to our accommodation dodging the many other cars parked up in and on the verges (some parked more considerately than others). Arriving at our villa we were surprised by how drab it looked from the outside and I thought I had just turned up on an army camp. Inside it was OK but looked a little tired. A smelly fridge was quickly put right by guest services (actually I was very impressed by the customer service).

We went to the pool after unpacking and this was the only time it was quiet so we found a family cubicle - they could certainly do with many more as this was the only time we got one. Given the pool was one of the few things included in the cost we made good use of it over the weekend (spent about 4 hours over the 3 days). It was great fun, warm enough with plenty of slides which the kids could actually use with our help (we had two 5 year old with us). The only negative was the Grand Cascade ride which we knew nothing about initially but by the last day we queued for 20mins and had one go (the ride was great fun but we were not prepared to stand in the queue more than once). The big hit was the outside rapids (we had to get out half way down with our kids).

The biggest disappointment was the activities which did not give good value for money. We prebooked two on each day of the weekend - bike treasure trail (there should be a minimal cost to cover the price of the "prizes" for the kids if any cost at all but it did give us a good idea of the location of things), Wizards Party (best value for money of the weekend), Aerial Adventure (very short in comparison to Go Ape and would have been over in 30mins if it was not for a very slow person in front), pony ride (£16 for 7 mins on the pony - really!!!!) and Little Outlaws archery (had to point out it was a 30min session after the instructor finished it after 15mins. When we asked the kids which was their favourite it was Little Outlaws.

We cooked our own dinner on Fri/Sat and lunch on Sat so only ate out twice - lunch at the Pancake House which was good and dinner at Hucks which was average at best (costly due to the large portion sizes). Both had excellent kids play areas and the kids menus were good value (similar to those on the high street).

We enjoyed the no car freedom which meant the kids could cycle most places (it was a little hilly so there was some walking in places for the kids). It was a very cold weekend but we still spent plenty of time outside exploring the huge site. In fact it was almost too big so a map was required at all times. The site comprised mainly of accommodation and I think they have too many people on site. Yes, I know it was half term so probably one of their busiest periods but I think it would be better with less people. Even when cycling around there was lots of "watch out for the other people" shouted out to the kids ahead on their bikes.

Overall, we enjoyed the weekend but I would not hurry back to any CP site. The Feb half-term is a difficult holiday to get right in the UK. The kids certainly enjoyed the break and the plethora of activities available means there is something for everyone. However, we've had just as much fun staying in B&B's in Totnes and cottages in Scotland. It was nice not to use the car so another win for CP on that front but we did the same in Totnes last October. The kids got to do lots of safe cycling but this is easily achievable on the traffic free cycle paths all around the country. I think the cost of the whole experience will always come back to any review and it is this that leads me to give an average score. I won't rave about it to friends. I will probably return at some point in the future and it will always be an option at the back of my mind but I am not in any rush.

If you have not been before and just read my review I would say give it a go but be prepared for a costly weekend.

Room Tip: Cedar no. 243 has steps from the road and a pond out the back (frozen when we stayed)

“EXCELLENT WINTER HOLIDAY FOR ALL THE FAMILY”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

What an amazing time at center parcs......the whole experience was fantastic i cant really say enough about this place. our accommodation was great location so easily unpacked and took our vehicle back to the carpark. plenty of accessories to cook and eat in so we were happy to do this as we had a toddler with us. the beds are very comfy but i would advise to take your own pillow if you are a fussy person at bedtime. there is so much to do for families, lots of swimming which the little one loved her time in the pool and on the slides. the rapids are great fun we even got to swim in the outdoor pool whilst it was snowing :O we ate at the sports cafe a few times its nice but quite expensive, the boys did archery and the gold range both great value for money. we all did the aerial adventure you need plenty of energy for this one and lots of balance what an experience. people seem to moan about lots of kids but this is center parcs its suppose to be for families etc so if you want to be away from children go somewhere else. overall a brilliant time at center parcs cant wait to book our next trip this year in the summer :)

Room Tip: great location in the birch area lodge 412
