“One of the best hotels between Bergen and the Geiranger area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We stay in this hotell quite often, it cuts the drive to Bergen into managable parts for the kids in the back seat.

Our favourite is the cabin in the back of the pool, where we kan arrange ourselves as we please. With the attick with matresses for the bigger kids, three bunk-beds and sometimes even a cot, as well as the king-size bed and sofa, we have been from four to nine people in there.

-And included is the full hotell breakfast, free use of the pool, play-room etc. The regular hotellrooms are also good.

We love the pool, we have more often than not had the luxury of having it all to ourselves, save the odd grandmother dropping by for a few laps. It is covered by glass, but you still get the feeling of an outdoor-pool, even though you stay warm also during snowy-season.

The breakfast leaves something to be desired. The buffet is plentyful, cereals, milks and juices, coffee and tea, pancaces, porridge, breads, cheeses different local courses such as salmon and herring, but the meats should perhaps be changed more often. -In my experience. But the staff is lovely. At night they go out of their way to help you if you arrive late and need a small snack for the kiddies for instance. -Or need to book a trip somewhere. -Or you are in a hurry because your kids just wanted a little more time in the pool - or playing giant chess.

The view is impecable.

“Great location, enjoyed 5 nights here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2011

We used this hotel as my partner had stayed here previously while visiting the area. The location was perfect, at the joining of two major routes that we used every day driving to see various sites, all of which were within a couple of hours' drive.

Our room was basic (with a bizarrely tiny bath) but the shower was fantastic and we had a beautiful view and balcony over the fjord. It would have been nice to have a proper double bed rather than two singles pushed together, but this was something we experienced elsewhere in Norway so might just be common practice.

The breakfast wasn't amazing but did the job fine. We ate a few dinners here (as Skei is very tiny and in October there was nowhere else to go particularly!) and the steaks were great, although as a non-fish-eater there were only 3 main meal choices - more options would have been very welcome!

If you want tea and coffee facilities in the room this is available but you have to ask - and make sure you specify if you want caffeinated coffee, we found this out the first morning the hard way! They don't refill this so you need to get more each day yourself.

Be prepared for the decor- it is very, um.. retro! There is nothing wrong with it at all, but don't expect modern glamour.

Room Tip: The front of the hotel has the great views but can have lots of traffic noise. The rooms at the bac...

“Nice hotel, with a senic view..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

I've stayed at this hotel several times.

The view from the rooms down to the lake is great. I have lived in many different rooms and they all are a little bit "old", but it's ok.. Some of the rooms are quite small, but then the price is better...

The staff are polite, and very helpful, and they welcomes me back again, when I've come back after many stays.

One particular story, my credit-card was maxed out and my Visa card was outdated... The staff then knew me, and let me pay what ever i got left, and then I let me pay the rest when i came back.. That's a good service!

The breakfast is good, and got everything I need from a hotel breakfast. If you ask the staff, they'll give you a doggy bag, so you can bring your own lunch!

The swimming pool is great for a relaxing swim, a little to much chlorine for my taste, but ok.

The one downside of this hotel, they don't have the biggest menu in the restaurant.. So if you stay there six - seven times, you've been around the menu.. It's a little boring, but the food is good!

Room Tip: Get a room with view over the lake!

“Splendours of Norway Tour 24th July 2011”

We originally went on the Splendours of Norway Tour in 2004 and enjoyed ourselves so much that this July we decided to go back to Norway on the same tour with Crystals.
As on our first visit the hotel was great, Jon the owner and Unn his daughter made us feel like we had arrived home. The staff are brilliant and nothing is too much trouble for them.
The Skei Hotel is a wonderful place to stay, once again our room overlooked the beautiful Lake Jolster, The food, buffet style, was always fresh with plenty to full us after a day in the fjords or on the glacier. You are also given a paper bag at breakfast to help yourself from the buffet to make yourself a packed lunch. Three course meals with plenty of choice, homemade soup, salads, cold meats and a choice of 4 hot dishes to choose from. Great desserts wetted our appetite. A great modern swimming pool, sauna, table tennis, mini golf and tennis courts were available to use free of charge. On the lake the hotel also provided free rowing boats.
Once again we had a wonderful guide the lovely Katarina, who went out of her way to make sure everyone was happy with their holiday, nothing was too much trouble for her, her knowledge of the area is fantastic.
The tours are well worth going on and good value for money.
We would fully recommend the Skei hotel as a wonderful place to stay and also the Splendors of Norway tour as we think it is the best way to see the real Norway!

Room Tip: Ask for one overlooking Lake Jolster.

“Good base for walking”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

We were part of the Crystal Tours trip, but decided not to do the optional tours. stayed 5 nights. We liked this hotel. Staff were good, food ok (buffet style. We prefered the salad bar than the mains that were a bit 'school dinner'. Hotel used by big tour groups so does get busy. Got a room upgrade to third floor. Big and comfortable room overlooking lake. Used a few of the facilities, pool was pretty decent. Most days we went hiking. Good base for this, can get maps from tourist information, and also hotel staff. Don't need a car to do a few walks. Without a car / tour you can also hire bikes from hotel, and take public bus to galcier museum. Nice bar area, and live music some nights, but tended to be an older crowd / classical music (we are early 30s and spent evenings in our room). Would recommend though for base.

Room Tip: Ask for third floor if available (not likely if you are part of big tour group)
