“Excellent Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2010

Spent one week in August in this hotel. The hotel is located around 3km from Desenzano so you do need a car, but the setting is perfect. The hotel is set in gardens on the lake of Garda. The decor may be a little garish for some, but it does have it's charm. The room was great, of good size, clean and looked out onto the lake. The swimming pool area was very relaxing and perfect after a day sightseeing. Breakfast is catered more to the European, but fried eggs, bacon and omlettes were available on request. The lady serving breakfast was extremely friendly and attentive. The only downside was that after 6 there was no place to have a drink as the bar closed. However we bought drinks from the local supermarket and used the hotel fridge. The hotel is serves as a great base for touring lake Garda.

“Good relaxing place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2009

Been there for years, get worse and worse rooms despite being a regular. Still no WiFi in the rooms, Ethernet cables at reception. Quality of rooms and service still high, but only in the rooms with Lakeview, avoid the others.

“A delightful stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2008

We had the most wonderful stay at the Aquila D'Oro. It was classy, quiet and cosy but the staff were always attentive and helpful. An extra thankyou to Tanja for making us feel like we were special. The lake view room gave us peaceful sunset views with the locals (and their obviously much - loved dogs!) enjoying relaxing fishing and generally chilling out. The decor was superb; I've never stayed in a hotel where so much work had been put into the beautifully painted friezes and details. Breakfast was plentiful and varied and if something's not on the table don't be afraid to ask. Even a full English was ordered by one party while we were there. The restaurant only opens to guests if booked in advance but reception are excellent at explaining everything (in about 5 different languages it seems)

Desenzano is a good 40 minutes brisk walk away and although there are plenty of good restaurants within walking distance I would recommend a car if you are staying here. One small tip - parking at the weekend is nearly impossible near the main drags in Desenzano and extremely expensive (the tarrif doubles between 8.00pm and 4.00am). We found it much better to park up a side street in the suburbs and walk into the town.

All in all - a wonderful stay. Tod and Alli.

“A super stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 May 2008

This was my second stay at the Aquila d'Oro, and I have to say it was good before - but now is excellent. The hotel itself is literally on the lake, and not really in Desenzano (rather Rivoltella, a suberb), so I would definitely reccommend it for those who have a car - otherwise try something more local. But for anyone who is mobile and wants personal service, an attentive staff, a good restaurant, a nice pool, and charming spotless rooms overlooking the lake - this is a best bet. It definitely is worth it getting the lake front rooms, as the back rooms can have some noise from the street, do not have much of a view, and don't really have a balcony. The peace of the waterfront rooms at night on the balcony is superb, with only frogs croaking and the occasional boat passing.

We were planning to only spend a night here this time around and then go on to Gargnano, but decided to do a day trip with the ferry instead because our first day was so nice in this hotel. We were here for an anniversary, and it was no problem for the staff to organise flowers and reserve a seperate breakfast table in the morning, with a personal escort to the table as well! You can be sure, we will be back...
