“Great hotel, left hungry though!!!!”

We stayed here for three nights recently. This hotel could be fantastic. The rooms, service and feel of the hotel gets a massive thumbs up. Couple of things that you should know - a car is almost essential, Sirmione and Desenzano are a 10 minute drive away and probably a 45 minute walk. Secondly, this 4 star hotel, doesn't serve food after 5pm. This I find odd given the location. If you don't have a car make sure you have a big lunch!!!!! That said, we really enjoyed our stay at the Palace.

“Don't believe the pictures!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 June 2011

Looking at the pictures from this hotel it appears idyllic, quiet and peaceful, but really it is on a main road, in fact, THE main road. It was very noisy, from the rooms, by the pool, which is located on the front road side of the hotel, from the breakfast room. We decided after looking around at the hotel that we would stay only one night and leave the next day for quieter pastures. However, the receptionist was very rude, rollng here eyes and signing heavily at our request to leave. We asked to speak to the manager, but she refused to let us, until after much perseverance we were able to. The manager, finally, decided we could leave the next day and not have to pay for the second day, and said she would sort it out in the morning. After a very uncomfortable nights sleep on a rock hard bed, the manager went back on her word from the previous evening, saying we still had to pay for the next day too! We got on the phone with our travel Booker and were able to sort it out, but only with the third party. Breakfast was basic, and the Internet only worked in the lobby. The hotel and it's rooms seemed quite clean, however it lacked any personal touch and was quite cold and austere. There are so many beautiful places to stay at the lake Garda, and this ain't one of them, no view and veery noisy. I wouldn't recommend this for it's lack of peronalality, and the unfriendly staff, not to mention above!

“Good and beautiful hotel, rooms not that big”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2010

Stayed here for 4 nights. The hotel looks good and the room looks good. Rooms are not that big, you can call them even small. The beds are very very hard like almost everywhere in Italy. No English tv channels and no free internet (9 euro 24 hours). Swimmingpool is not heated and feels like ice-water. For a hotel like this, the pool should be heated ! Parking is okay. There are 6 or 7 parkingspaces at the property and you can park outside the property for free. Breakfast is okay, at least it was 3 out of 4 times fresh and not old (bread). The hotel looks overall very good. Because of the lookes of the hotel and the state it is in, We give it 4 in the rating instead of 3. For dining go the the center of Desenzano near the lake. Beautiful and a 10 min drive. We do recommend this hotel ! For more culture go to Sirmione also a 10 min drive. Visit the castle and the Roman ruines.

“Beautiful hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2010

Just come back from a week at the Palace Hotel and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It's only 25mins from Verona airport. The hotel is immaculate, staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was buffet style which consisted of cereals, fruit, yogurts, cheeses, ham, tomatoes, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, sausages, bacon, bread, bread rolls, toast, pastries, jams & honey. There isn't a restaurant but who wants to eat in a hotel when there are so many lovely restaurants in both Desenzano & Sirmione. The bar serves a few snacks which is all you need at lunchtime. The room was lovely and had a balcony with a table and 2 chairs. The safe in the room is free to use and you just put in your own code. The hotel is situated between Desenzano and Sirmione. A car would make life easier but you can ask at the reception and the hotel's shuttle bus can be made available for you during the day. We did walk to Desenzano in the evening but a stroll can take 40-45mins. Taxis are a little on the expensive side. The average cost back to the hotel from Desenzano was 12-14 euros. Guests mainly seemed to be from Italy, Germany & Austria. A brilliant week.

“Nice Hotel, shame about the location.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2009

The hotel is nice, very clean and looks very new. The pool was lovely, the rooms were a good size all with balconies over looking the lake. The roof top pool wasn't open when we were there which was a shame. The breakfast in the mornings was a bit bland, not much choice. The bar menu wasn't very extensive, we got bored of eating there and on the 3rd day decided to start going out for lunch. They don't have a restaurant for dinner. Make sure you put all your belongings in the safe as we had money stolen from our room on the first day, put a bit of a downer of the holiday.
If you aren't planning on hiring a car, don't stay here. We had to drive everywhere, there are no restaurants or shops within walking distance, it's in the middle of 2 towns and unless you want to walk 45 minutes in either direction you will have to get cabs/buses. We drove into Sirmione nearly every day, we loved Lake Garda and would stay in Sirmione if we ever go back, it was beautiful and there are lots of restaurants there.
