“Well priced, perfect location for staying in Volterra”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2011

I found this hotel in Lonely Planet and it was easy to book. Travelling as a single, it's hard to find well priced single accom, but this place was the right price and included breakfast. The host Leeza was so friendly and accommodating, she helped me find all the things I needed. The room was ample for what I needed. Only issue was the water to the shower seemed to struggle a little, and didn't get very hot. But for a two night stay, I found it very adequate. Breakfast was great!

“Quality, character, location and value.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

Two couples. Two rooms. Our rooms were on the first floor, which actually were above the street about a half story. The ceilings were probably 16-20 feet high. Nice space. The decor was quaint and the room furnishings were very nice. Large windows opened to the street below. Bed was great and the bathroom was Americanesque.

We had some things we wanted to chill, beer and champagne, specifically. Giuseppina, one of the owners, showed us to a full fridge and freezer in a hidden room off of the common area. She was very accommodating with everything from checking us in to running up to our room to help us figure out the new flatscreens that were put in. Breakfast in the morning was very nice. Who ran it? Giuseppina, of course. It was obvious that she was one of the owners.

She really cared about us being satisfied.

We were. Very.

Room Tip: Make sure Giuseppina will be there for your stay. There is a huge free parking lot down below the...

“Well located, friendly staff, rooftop garden”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

What more could one need? The rooftop garden was perfect for sitting reviewing the day's activities and gazing out over the rooftops of Volterra, whilst when the weather turns cold there is a comfortable lounge on the 1st floor where one can also sit and relax before dinner. It's nice having a hotel with comfortable public areas so one does not have to always be in one's room. (Which is quite small, with tiny bathroom, but very comfortable nonetheless).

The hotel is not "young" but it is very sweet and the staff are all so friendly and helpful it makes up for any small defects. There's wifi in the rooms and one of the best breakfasts we found in Italy. Free parking is available a short walk away (257 steps down - and up!) or the underground parking is a reasonable price and is only 5 minutes from the Hotel. There's a great bar & Gelateria (l'Incontro) a few doors away and several excellent restaurants nearby. Ask Guiseppina or Lisa their recommendations and save yourselves time, money and sub-standard food!

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room as I guess the streetfront can be noisy. We had a really quiet room. Some ro...

“Very nice 3 star hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

This is a beautifully located hotel on the main, largely pedestrian, street. It is only a short walk from the bus station, but may be less convenient if you have a car.

We stayed four nights in a front room. These rooms are very spacious by European standards, but can be noisy. The doubled glazed windows and curtains did a good job of reducing the noise, but closed windows in the hot weather made the room stuffy (no air-conditioning or fan). We mentioned this to the staff as we we leaving, and they said they would have provided a fan if we had requested it.

The staff were lovely. Very helpful, welcoming and friendly. They made you feel at home.

Breakfast was standard continental, but the great coffees direct from the espresso machine were a great start to the day.

There is a very good lounge for gathering with friends, and an tremendous garden at the rear of the hotel. This was a delightful oasis, nicely furnished and a great place to have a picnic lunch.

The small shower is the main negative. I am only average size, but I found it very cramped and difficult to use. A large person would find it impossible. If you have any physical difficulties, there is no lift.

If you want to stay in the lovely town of Volterra, and you are happy with a 3 star hotel, then If you are not too big or physcally handicapped, I would recommend this hotel because of its location, its staff, its garden and the general warmth and ambiance.

Room Tip: Front rooms are large but can be noisy, Back rooms are smaller but quieter

“Marvelous location and a terrific value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

We arrived in Volterra during a festival where the neighborhoods compete! Each of the parades passed in front of Hotel Etruria in full regalia, while we fought through the main street with our luggage. It created a fabulous welcome to this charming and historic town. Our room was located up MANY steps on the roof top garden. To help us save steps during our stay, the owner gave us keys to the back entrance. The rooms are simple, clean, and homey, and the price is amazingly low. This was perhaps the best value of our month-long stay in Italy. The location could not be better. We plan to return here many times.

Room Tip: The rooftop room located by itself on the garden is a perfect romantic hideaway.
