“Excellent!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

This hotel is a wonderful venue for your Volterra stay: it is central and easily accessible (enter the NO ENTRY! Medieval gate and within metres you are there). The rooms were fine (basic to high quality) with a great swimming pool, lookout (that can easily double as a work-out / yoga area), and a great breakfast setting. Super friendly staff and handy parking.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the pool side.

“A lovely stay in Volterra”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

Oct 29 and Oct 30, 2011 we stayed at Hotel San Lino in Volterra. We loved the hotel. It is a convent converted into a hotel which made it even more interesting. We had superior rooms which were very nice and comfortable. The only negative was that the shower was a little hard to get into because of the door size. So overweight folks would have a problem here. But the big plus with this hotel is that they have covered parking available at 11 euros/night right next door. The hotel is located inside the city walls and a very short walk to all that is going on in this wonderful town. Breakfast was typical for Europe but again very nice. The girls at the front desk were very helpful and recommended some wonderful restaurants to us. Internet in the rooms was not available but a computer is available downstairs in the hotel free of charge. The hotel has a nice pool area which I am sure is lovely to use in the summer. And if you feel like going to mass, heck there is a church right next door for that purpose. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who needs a place to stay in Volterra.

“Location was perfect...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

We were there for 1 night and was because of its location. Good for families and walking distance everywhere. Its right smack in the middle of the ancient and very old town. Service was good, breakfast was enough. The only thing was that, according to the hotel website, it said that it has wi-fi but it didn't say in the rooms. So, beware, if your traveling depends on internet connection sometimes then make sure ask for a room that is nearer to the reception because only then you are able to be connected. We had a corner room right at the end of the building, so we are not connected to the world.
If internet connection is not needed then the hotel is perfect.

“Location, location, location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

Since Volterra is so incredibly steep, and many of the streets so narrow, you really don't want to be be driving too far into this town, especially if your rental car has a manual gear box! So this hotel is the best location to book - just inside the city walls, with indoor parking available, San Lino is an ideal hotel to book into, park the car and the luggage, and get on with exploring the town. Rooms are perfectly adequate. Free internet terminal here too, which had value for us. This hotel is run very efficiently, clearly they are used to having large groups stay with them, but the service remains attentive and individual. The only negative from our perspective was that the breakfast coffee was truly awful, but with so many street cafes in Volterra, it really didn't matter - just got us out of the hotel a little faster in the mornings.

“hotel location great but avoid half board”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

the hotel is in a great location inside the walls of the town, and within walking distance of everything you would wish to see in volterra.
the rooms were simply furnished but quite dark, we were told that none of the rooms had baths only showers.
the pool area is pretty, and the courtyard is a pleasant place for breakfast, which had a reasonable choice on the buffet.
the hotel has free wifi which was useful.
the problem was that we took up their offer of a half board option at 20 euros per night per person.
the hotel doesn't open its restaurant at night and merely gave us a voucher for supposedly 3 courses plus dessert at a local restaurant which changed each night. The first restaurant merely deducted 20 euros from the price of the meal we chose which was alot more than the 20 euros per head. the next night we were sent to a different restaurant who treated us as an inconvenience, and we certainly didn't get the meal that was promised on the voucher. So I would not reccomend the half board option.
