“Fantastic food and a quiet place to rest”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2010

Dawne is an excellent cook. Splurge for dinner and you won't regret it. L'Ombricolo is a peaceful place off the beaten track with easy access to many wonderful sights. (Civita di Bagnoregio is one to visit....but don't forget the Monster Park in Bomarzo!)
Belinda and Luna will welcome you as only the best 4-legged friends can. They are lovely, well-behaved dogs that made it feel like home for us.
L'Ombricolo was a wonderful find. The story of its creation is part of it's charm. Be sure to inquire about it's history.

“A truly charming place to unwind, relax and enjoy the italian countryside”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2010

We spent a few days at L'Ombricolo over Easter 2010. L'Ombricolo it's a great country house, renovated with taste and care over the years by Dawne who is an excellent and extremely caring host. We were treated to great breakfasts and dinners. The house is in a beautiful spot of the italian countryside right at the boundary between Lazio, Tuscany and Umbria. Bomarzo, Orvieto and many other gems can be easily reached by car. Definitely the perfect place to relax, unwind and enjoy some treasures of the Italian Renaissance.

“Wow, what a find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2010

We arrived in L'Ombricolo after a long and tiresome journey to a gem of a place. The welcome was warm and inviting and the house was beautiful, with views to die for. We stayed for two nights and ate with Dawne, whose cooking skills are second to none. We thorougly recommend this place to anybody wishing for a relaxing stay with fantastic food.

“Not your run of the mill hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2008

If you are looking for an anonymous hotel then this is not the place for you. If however, you want to stay somewhere a little different then this is the place. The atmosphere is relaxed and home from home with most conversations taking place around the kitchen table! Dinner has a real dinner party atmosphere, providing the opportunity to mix with other travellers and local friends invited in by Dawne the host. The traditional italian 5 course dinner is second to none and includes sparking wine to kick of the evening and limoncello to finish. The 5 rooms are comfortably furnished with the 2 downstairs providing access directly to the sprawling grounds. The property is ideally placed for exploring the area around Orvietto and Dawne is more than willing to make table reservations and provide itinerary suggestions, as required.

PS Beware if you do not like dogs, here like the guests 'Luna' and 'Belinda' are treated as members of the family!

“Exquisite Guest House in Southern Umbria”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2007

This guest house is not only gorgeous (it has been featured in Architectural Digest and Karen Brown's Romantic Inns for good reason), but very comfortable and peaceful. The website pictures are very accurate. The bathroom was very modern and came equipped with a fluffy bathrobe-a touch I always appreciate.

The hostess Dawne is very welcoming and is a terrific cook as well. We thouroughly enjoyed aour wonderful dinner with her. She has lived a most fascinating life in both the UK and Italy and we loved hearing about it over dinner. She was also most helpful in providing maps and directions for taking the most scenic route to our next destination.

This is the perfect spot to relax and get over jet lag on arrival from Rome, or to take in the peaceful and lush setting before heading home. Located an easy 90 minutes from FCO, it is easy to find and a good location from which to explore the southern towns of Umbria and parts of Lazio. Especially Cita di Bagnoregio which is about a 15 minute drive.

I will always think about staying here on my way from or to Rome if I have travel plans in the area. Highly recommended both for the lovely house and setting and for the very friendly and accomadating hostess.
