“FABULOUS!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 April 2010

WE LOVED this hotel! This was our 6th hotel on our honeymoon and what a lovely place!! It was quaint, very clean, quite, a decent price and had a great breakfast! What more could you want? They heard it was our honeymoon and upgraded us for free to a BEAUTIFUL suite! All of there rooms come with fabulous products that I just loved! We went across to the shop where they sell them and spent a pretty penny. The products rival any high - end luxury brand I would buy in NYC where we live. The staff was nice and our dinner was fabulous. We ate at the restaurant that they own behind the hotel. It has gotten some good ratings so we decided to try it. Im glad we did! The food was really great! Negatives: there is no elevator and getting our bags up the room was quite a challege. They don’t have helpers to do this for you. We were in luck that the owner was there that day and he helped us with the bags. Its very quite there at night. It’s a small village with no nightlife (which we found a great break from our busy lives). We would 100% stay at this hotel again!!!!!

“Great choice for exploring Lazio region of Italy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2009

As other reviewers have mentioned, this hotel is not located in Viterbo, but rather in Civita Castellana, which is quiet a distance away. The Relais Falisco is a great choice if you are looking for a central place to explore the Lazio region of Italy . We had a nice and spacious duplex room which was fine, although as often happens in hotels there were no shelves or cabinets for arranging one’s toiletries. Another couple we were travelling with complained of street noise from their room, but we did not have this problem as we were facing another direction. The hotel is a bit “sleepy”, meaning one doesn’t see that many other clients – the only time we saw anyone else was at breakfast (buffet style, one of the best we experienced in Italy ). The staff is very friendly and helpful. Please note there is no WIFI in the rooms (one can only capture it downstairs, on a paying basis), and only one computer terminal (with free internet access).
The hotel has plenty of parking space. We got lost every day leaving the hotel, as it’s located in the middle of Civita Castellana, so the front desk should think of giving clients a map showing where the hotel is located and how to get in and out of town. We ate one evening at La Scuderia , located right next door to the hotel. An excellent meal, great wine recommendations, and a good value for the money. Highly recommend that you eat here if staying at the Relais Falisco.

“Well worth a Visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2009

Had a wonderful stay at this hotel during our 5 week tour of Italy the staff were friendly and helpful we stayed in the suite which had a beautiful balcony overseeing the rooftops of the local houses. We used this a break between Sorrento and Cortona and we visited some lovely sights such as a place they call the dying city. There is a restaurant attached to the hotel (it is an old stable refurbished) but is not owned by the hotel we had two beautiful meals there, the owner of the establishment actually comes and sits down and discusses the menue it was devine. This hotel is off the usual tourist track but if you want quality accomodation helpful friendly staff I would recommend this hotel.

“Nice Hotel, mediocre location”

I booked the Relais Falisco because I wanted to stay in the countryside north of Rome to be in proximity to the Palazzo Farnese in Caprarola. The hotel looked beautiful online and somehow I got the impression it was on the outskirts of some village in a more rural setting. In reality it is in the center of an old crumbling town which has great potential (Cathedral, interesting piazzas) but it quite run down. The town is FAR off the tourist path which can be a good thing but here it was not. I speak Italian but warning to those who don't. English is not a lingua franca here.

The hotel was the former palace of the Count of Civita Castellana and you'll drive right by it if you aren't careful. It is extremely hard to get to and you have to arrive from the north side of town and make your way through some seriously small and narrow one way streets. (Use Google Maps, trust me!) Once inside the palace gate, it is a very charming and well renovated hotel. The hotel is situated around a charming courtyard with a splashing fountain and plenty of parking. The interior of the hotel is very nice and is a pleasant blend of the historic and the comfortable modern. The room was nice and very comfortable but for some reason the tub in the bathroom didn't have a shower curtain (???). The staff was also fairly accommodating. Dining in Civita Castellana can be a problem as many of the places are closed or not very welcoming. Remember in Italy that alot of restaurants are closed on Monday or Tuesday. We didn't get to try the La Scuderia restaurant adjacent to the hotel because it was closed. Having to venture into town for dinner is an interesting experience. The owner at the "Pane e Pomodoro" restaurant up the street was accommodating until he found out we didn't want a five course dinner and a bottle of Dom Perignon. He turned us away from an empty restaurant out of pride even though we would have ordered almost EUR40 worth of food. It's a form of old fashioned stubborn pride not seen very often anymore.

Lastly, the hotel was somewhat dead. There was a French tour group who seemed to be friends of the owner there, but other than that it seemed pretty quiet. The next morning we found the breakfast to be rather substandard for such a luxury hotel. Off brand espresso, no prosciutto, only a couple croissants. It seemed like a no frills breakfast when this type of hotel normally goes overboard.

Overall a nice and charming hotel but in a mediocre location. Transport it to another town and it would be wildly popular.

“Wonderful Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2008

We have just returned from a 2 week vacation in Italy where we spent our last 2 nights at the Relais Falisco. Everything about our experience there was great. When I went to book online it was showing their largest room could only accommadate 4 with 2 adults and 3 children under the age of 10 we prefered one room. When I emailed Alberto he quickly responded and gave me the options I needed. The room was great with more than enough room for all of us. He recommended great restaruants to eat in particular "Pane e Pomodore Wine & Food". I think it was probably one of the best meals we had in Italy.
The day we were leaving Alberto made sure there was breakfast for us ready before we left (we were leaving before breakfast started).Beautiful hotel, great staff. The only down side which I didn't appreciate until I got there Italy is on vacation the first 2 weeks of August. Alot of restaurants etc are closed!

  • Liked — Easy drive to Rome, and alot of other attractions. Non tourist
