“The food is very dull”

We found this hotel from the tourist agency in town who only spoke Italian. The car parking is quite far away and they had a small cart to help us with luggage.

Being out of season the guests were mostly Italian and one older lady was overseeing a small group of poorly behaved disabled teenagers who would come into our dining area to talk loudly on their mobile phones and in the mornings ran straight to 'their" beach loungers.

We also got tired of eating there very quickly and a restaurant they recommended was a waste of time too so we weren't impressed with the family run Seggio.

“A standard three star hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2009

What you are paying for at the Hotel Seggio is the position - and it is a good one - in Vieste's old town, with the private beach. The rooms are dated, the bathrooms are tiny, and it had the smallest shower I've ever seen. However, our room at least was clean. It is a three star hotel, and it does enough to meet that status and no more.

The restaurant was OK. It wasn't great though, and some of the dishes were plain odd. In particular the cheese main courses which were (twice) a pool of cheese that had been melted and coaxed into a puddle. The meat courses were worse than the fish, as a rule.

A Rick Steeves tour party was there for two nights. They all seemed very nice, and I think they had a good time - however, this hotel is too small for thirty odd people to be going around it, doing the same things at the same time without it negatively impacting on the other guests. Even though we were half board we skipped dinner on their second night, as we hadn't been able to hear ourselves think the first night they were there.

Would we go back? Probably not. I thought Vieste was a bit disappointing, and enjoyed our trips inland to Vico del Gargano and the Foresta Umbra more.

“Loved it”

Lovely staff, great location, fine breakfast, spacious bedroom - couldn't ask for more. Did not have a sea view but went into one of the sea-view rooms - stunning view from a small balcony - will have next time.

All food at all restaurants was excellent. Met no one with a complaint - paid from 36euro to 65 for two people and whilst some restaurants had more decorative features the quality of the food was similar. Some simple some fancy all fantastic.

Go to Bar Ruggieri at the top of the main street where you can try the local organic beer Cruda Biondi - best lager in Italy. We also received a free plateful of snacks - mini Pizzas, sandwiches, savory pastries - all for 3 euros a bottle. two beers and you are stuffed and mellow.

If you go to Peschici by bus - if you want the town get off at the top of the village. Stay on if you want the beach. You can get off at the village and walk to the beach and there is a bus stop at the far end of the beach on the main road - find the bus stop early to avoid missing the bus.

On leaving the hotel the patron gave me a bottle of his own olive oil - a genial and generous host.

“Enjoyed The Food and Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2008

We stayed at the Seggio during a Rick Steeves tour. Our room was slightly above average compared to the other hotels we stayed at on our tour. The bed was more confortable than several others we slept on and the room had a safe, TV, small frig and a computer to use downstairs. The shower was extremely small and the bathroom dimly lit. We had a small balcony overlooking a courtyard and the street. If we leaned over the railing we could see the ocean. The food and service in the restaurant was very good. The desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel had a small saltwater pool and lounge area which overlooked the ocean. I can't compare it to other hotels in the area but overall it fit our needs.

“Changed hotel too.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2008

I booked a 1 week stay for july in february. After asking for the prices i was told 105 with seaview and 95 without. We booked with the seaview. I just assumed it was with at balcany since she didnt ask if we wanted this and it looked like it had it on the pictures online.
We payd 150 euros up front to reserve the room.

When we arrived at the hotel we got one of the wooden cages described in the last review. It was terrible. Ok, it was a seaview but you could not see it from anywhere in the room except in the window. I am pregnant and for me it was importent to have a room to relax in when i was getting tired, and also a balcony to chill on.

I went to the reception and said i was disappointed becasuse of the lack of balcony and the fact that we made the reservation in february and paid money etc.... but i only met arrogance. "you did not request, and we have done nothing wrong" was all she said. All the other "nice" rooms were taken the hole week. And if we left the hotel she will still keep the 150 euros.... She did NOTHING to try and make us more happy about the stay and maybe stay there after all.

Me full of hormons just left. So we paid 150 euros for nothing. Luckely we found another hotel much better close by so the holiday was not ruined. So, if you want to stay at this hotel i think you need to really make sure you get a nice room before you pay and book...
