What you are paying for at the Hotel Seggio is the position - and it is a good one - in Vieste's old town, with the private beach. The rooms are dated, the bathrooms are tiny, and it had the smallest shower I've ever seen. However, our room at least was clean. It is a three star hotel, and it does enough to meet that status and no more.
The restaurant was OK. It wasn't great though, and some of the dishes were plain odd. In particular the cheese main courses which were (twice) a pool of cheese that had been melted and coaxed into a puddle. The meat courses were worse than the fish, as a rule.
A Rick Steeves tour party was there for two nights. They all seemed very nice, and I think they had a good time - however, this hotel is too small for thirty odd people to be going around it, doing the same things at the same time without it negatively impacting on the other guests. Even though we were half board we skipped dinner on their second night, as we hadn't been able to hear ourselves think the first night they were there.
Would we go back? Probably not. I thought Vieste was a bit disappointing, and enjoyed our trips inland to Vico del Gargano and the Foresta Umbra more.
