This was the 2nd place we visited on our honeymoon and i have to say we were very disappointed, for the money we paid it no where near met up to our expectations, we previously stayed in Venice at Hotel Londra which was also 4* but this was a millions times better.
our air con didnt work properly and was noisy, we had a sea view but it was over a car park and road and very noisy.
we were told we had a room upgrade but i cant see this was true.
the staff at the reception desk did not understand english very well and werent particlarly helpful.
the hotel from the outside looks nice but the rooms were a let down, the bathroom was horrible, old and shabby with polistyrene ceiling panels, very cramped and just old and tired looking.
the room was basic and ok but not what you would expect for your honeymoon, more what i would expect for a cheap late deal.
the only positive was the roof terrace where we had a lovely gala dinner, the restuarant was almost empty and we had silver service of about 5 courses, this was lovely.
the beach was a disappointment as you can only go on the section the hotel have access to, you get an umbrealla and chair free but have to pay for sunbeds.

one of the main things i requetsed when booking our honeymoon was a pool and we did have access to the 5 pools over the road but you had to wear a swimming cap (not the look you want on honeymoon) and 2 pools were for lane swimming, 1 for babies, 1 for children and the other for aqua aerobics, there was no pool to just have a dip in.

the road was busy and we didnt want a commercialised destination, literally it is a long road with shops and restaurants on one side and thats it, nowhere to walk to, no local boat trips and the trips through citalia werent great.

we also got stuck when travelling between venice and viareggio due to train strikes and had to find out own way from florence to viareggio with little help of where to go or how to do this.

overall very disappointing. not the italian riviera the commercial tuscan riviera!!

This was the most disappointing hotel we visited on our honeymoon
Our rooms air conditioning dud not work and when we complained they sent someone up but they could not fix it, they refused to let us move rooms as we would have to have been upgraded, we eventually got to move rooms but only after heavily complaining
I emailed the hotel before we booked to check the cost of the beach and was told it was 8 euros a day, when we arrived we were told it was 15 a day, even after u showed them the email they did not apologise, we were then charged 3 euros a day each for towels we were not told this would be the case and had a nasty surprise when we left
Overall we would never go back to this hotel and would recommend that others did not either the staff were rude and very unhelpful

Great hotel right across from the beach strand. Staff was very helpful. Breakfast was wonderful in a rooftop setting. Disappointed that there was no a/c in May. (They don't turn it on til June.) location was a tad noisy, but being on the main drag causes that.

Lovely hotel with great 1930s decor. We travelled with a baby and the staff were all extremely helpful making sure that we had high chairs and food for him and even made him a cake on his birthday. The food at the hotel is excellent but definitely get out and explore as there are some wonderful restaurants in Viareggio. The hotel is across the road from a lovely beach, very child friendly with toys and children's play area and plenty for adults. The station is a brisk 10 minute walk away with regular trains to Pisa, Florence, Lucca and other destinations. The trains were very cheap and reliable and we travelled everywhere by train.
