My husband and I spent a month in Italy on our recent honeymoon. Though we decided to travel at the peak of tourist season (August), many people insisted that if were going to Calabria we had to see Tropea. So we did, and it was the hi-lite of our trip.
Centrally located, the hotel is right on the main strip of this tiny beach town, and maybe a 10 minute walk to the beach? There is a SERIOUS set of stairs that take you down the beach, so you must be able-bodied to make the trek there and back. But once you get to the beach...WOW. Just Google "Tropea" and know that the pictures do not do the view, the crystal clear water, or the general vibe of the place justice.
The hotel breakfast was pretty good and full of variety. Because we had the best room in the hotel (I can confidently say this because ours was the only one with a huge terrace overlooking the town centre) and it was adjacent to the breakfast room, we'd take our breakfast onto our own private terrace. Amazing.
At 169 euro per night (roughly $250 Canadian at the time) it was our most expensive hotel stay. But absolutely, 1000% worth it.
The room was small and brightly painted. There was a flatscreen TV with a decent selection of euro channels. The bathroom was clean, but shower had no curtain. What is the deal with Italians bathrooms and lack of shower curtains? But you know, one of many Italian quirks.
I highly recommend this hotel. We will absolutely be back next time we're in southern Italy.
