We recently spent a week at the fabulous Residenza il Barone. It was truly exceptional. We stayed in the Junior Suite which was perfect for my husband and I and our 9 year old daughter. Roberto and Rossella looked after us exceptionally well - it is such a lovely place to stay - they even put children's bed linen on our daughter's bed which made her stay!
The room was very generous and really well appointed. Roberto and Rossella gave us some fabulous restaurant recommendations and arranged for off-site parking for our car.
It's a great location - right in the heart of the Tropea. The terrace was a fabulous place to have breakfast.
The only (incredibly) minor thing was that we couldn't get wi-fi in the hotel but there's a wi-fi cafe just outside.
We would have no hesitation in returning and recommending it as a wonderful place to enjoy the delights of beautiful Tropea.

I picked this B&B for our 8 day-stay in early November based on the very good reviews on Tripadvisor and the website and I can only second them! Admittedly, I was a little worried when nobody was there to check us in when we got there to at 1 pm and we couldn't reach anybody via the phone numbers that we had been provided with beforehand. Luckily, the weather was nice so we went to the beach and upon trying again around 5pm, we could move to our room! Both the room (we'd gone for a junior suite which was still very big and accommodating) and the terrace were a copy of the pics on the website - very modern and clean! Breakfast was alright though we'd have preferred a somewhat bigger selection (may be a German thing though). We could have breakfast on the terrace all but two days when it was too windy respectively when we went for a tour to the Aeolian Islands and thus had to leave at 7am. A small drop of bitterness: it may be due to us having been there outside the tourist season but what was a little annoying were the noise of the jack-hammer getting us up at 7am every morning and the stink of garbage being burnt a lot outside.

This could overall be the best hotel/B&B I have stayed in! Exceptional service all the way. Quick and friendly response to my many mailed questions. The owners arranged birthday-dinner for my father in-law in a restaurant and as a bonus delivered a cake there from a local bakery!
The roof terrace was a great place for breakfast even in October with lovely views of the city and the sea. Our eldest son loved the chocolate croissants at breakfast.
The rooms are large, modern and very well kept. The location is excellent, right in the middle of the historical centre of Tropea with many nice restaurants nearby.
The value for money is superb. If you have difficulties climbing stairs the Residenza is not for you, otherwise I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

Who would have thought we’d find the coolest room ever in the very heart of the historic center of Tropea? At the end of a long day and up several flights of stairs, we arrived in a great big room filled with light and so much charm: picture a cozy artists’ garret straight out of Moulon Rouge crossed with the simple functionality of modern Italian design. (Maybe you had to be there!) Our first priority, as always, is a comfortable bed and here, too, Il Barone didn’t disappoint. On top of all that … (one flight up) overlooking the beautiful medieval city, a covered rooftop garden where each morning a breakfast buffet is served. One morning, we were even offered custom omelettes on top of the usual very generous spread of fresh baked pastries, cold cuts, cereals, yogurt and jam. But what made the place really special (in fact our favorite of 8 accommodations in Southern Italy) were its owners. Roberto and Rosella are truly proud of their recently restored B&B, and genuinely seemed to want their guests to like it as much as they did. Their thoughtfulness exceeded the usual niceties, ie helping with directions, restaurant reservations, etc. Roberto actually went out to find us a better parking space. They also set up their own computer for use in our room. All in all an exceptional experience. Now about those stairs….
