I am amazed to see a negative review for this hotel, written at around the same time as I stayed in the hotel myself; as a very-well travelled solo traveller and a female, it can sometimes be difficult to be treated well when alone and, therefore, I am surprised to see this negative report for this same hotel written within a couple of days of my stay - which was idyllic. Its location is stunning and, after a long day's drive, and some anxious moments as I was driving through Todi as the light was fading and wondering what on earth I was going to do if couldn't find this place in the dark, I saw it in the distance on its hill in the dusk and, to be honest, I almost burst into tears because I could not believe I was actually booked in and about to stay there. It is high on a hill outside of Todi - with vineyards spread around its base; it is small and quiet cosy and, at the same time, very elegant, with a real sense of character. The girl who looked after me the evening I arrived could not have been friendlier; she took me to my room, on the third floor, in a state of some excitement, assuring me that she was glad I had the room I had been given because it was a lovely room for a woman - and it was, on the rear of the building, with a view that looked out over the pool below and, more importantly, to the fields and hills below and to Todi in the distance. I was helped to my room with utter courtesy - with, it seemed, everyone wanting to help me with my bags. I dined, too, in the restaurant; I was given a complimentary drink, I was served quickly (but not with the sense that they wanted to get rid of me) and the food - trout ravioli - was beautiful. The other people in the restaurant were all Italians; I was the only person dining alone and, obviously, the only foreigner. But I could not have asked for more courtesy - and I have no complaints. In the morning, I seemed to be the only guest for breakfast: they had a table specially set for me; the female staff member was waiting for me to arrive and - again - showed me complete courtesy. You sometimes wonder what happens when people go to the same place as you and write a negative review; obviously, these things can happen. However, all I could think of the next morning when I got up and took an early morning walk, was how beautiful and peaceful the location was, how nice the staff had been to me (and that is often not the case when you are a single female traveller - and, no, I am not infirm and, thus, they are worried I will die on their premises). It is glamorous and elegant without glitz; it is utterly clean; it is utterly quiet - and there were other guests staying the night because I heard doors open and close around my room during the night; the food is good; the service is courteous and friendly; the price is more than reasonable, given its location and facilities. What more could you ask for - as I walked around in the morning, wishing I could stay longer to sit in the shade and read a book by the pool as the birds cheeped in the trees and the workmen began their days in the vineyards below? Honestly, this is a beautiful place; I would go back there in a flash.
