We stayed at the Palazzo Dragoni for 7 days. The hotel is lovely and spotlessly clean. The Dragoni is in an easy sight-seeing area of Spoleto, which is a very beautiful old town with much to see and do in it. Signor Roberto and Signora Erminia are very gracious hosts and extremely helpful and obliging. The hotel has a modern lift servicing all floors. The overall decor is opulent, befitting the Palazzo's heritage. It is an important and significant building for Spoleto and Signor Roberto kindly showed us around it which was such a treat for us. We had room 8, a very large room with comfy four poster bed, mini frig, TV, free Wifi, a large modern bathroom and a big balcony with the best and highest view ever. Almost 360 degree views around, down and up. If we weren't out sight-seeing we lived on the balcony. Loved it. The hotel is perfectly sited. Left from front door leads to the Basilica, the Torre, the old Roman aquaduct bridge, the Rocca and scala mobile down to the newer commercial district of Spoleto and the railway station area. Straight ahead and up is the old centro storico of the town, with old food/wine/cheese shops, some interesting boutiques and a few easy to get to restaurants. Going right leads into the cinema district, museums, churches and many shops, restaurants and the main Piazza, the more modern area of the old town. It was easy to walk around Spoleto, which is surprisingly large.
Breakfast was a memorable experience each day in a beautiful room with high views from its picture windows of the town and landscapes. Signora Erminia has my husband's vote for best omelettes ever and her fresh cooked daily pastries were outstanding especially anything with pear in and the pear juice was also excellent. Fresh everything. Signora's lovely smiling face just capped it all off. Signor Roberto gave us much helpful advice on the local points of interest. We loved the walk both sides of the Rocca which is also a must visit place. Walking over the aquaduct and further along on the other side was interesting. This area is high and scenically magnificent.
7 days was not enough time to do and see everything and staying at the Dragoni made it a truly great holiday. Perfect hotel in perfect town. We arrived and departed by train and caught buses from Spoleto for our sight-seeing. Grateful for Roberto's help with bus timetables etc., We did decide (agreed upon by Roberto) that a car is probably mandatory to get into and out and about from Spoleto. Recommend Norcia anyway. An amazing town, totally flat itself but surrounded by hills. Was very beautiful. Famous for its truffles and pork products. The Basilica of Saint Benedict and his twin sister, Saint Scolastica, was worth visiting too. Enjoyed the town and was worth all the effort getting there. Todi and Cascia (of St. Rita - Saint for the impossible fame) were picturesque towns too. Norcia and Cascia can be easily done together in one day even if by bus to/from Spoleto.
