“Perfect for another way to explore part of Italy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

Christina and the family made us feel very much at home. The food was beautiful and the long table with a great mix of people added to the holiday. The mountain hacks are not challenging and the scenery is well worth exploring. Lunch on a mountain from saddle bags never tasted so good! The closest bar is worth a visit and the village has a super little antiques market.

“A Holiday with a Difference!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 June 2010

We caught a flight to Rome and drove up with a hired car. La Somma is situated on the top of a hill just south of Spoleto. The fact that it is out of the way is what gives it its individuality but nothing beats the thrill of horse-riding every morning before taking off on some sightseeing. The kids had a whale of a time with Christina and her sister as coaches. The Bevilacqua family was so welcoming and even invited us to join them for their Easter Sunday lunch, at a nominal price. My only recommendation is that the trip be made after May. We were unlucky in that we travelled over Easter, so found all adventure activities closed. Most disappointingly, we had received no replies from the Perugina factory to our queries by e-mail prior to the trip, and the Tourist Office did not advise that it would be closed over the vacation period. An adventure activity which the kids would have loved - climbing from one tree to the next, by the river - was practically impossible to find.... and when we finally arrived we found it closed. The kids were so put out. If these attractions promote their activities through their websites, then they should also ensure that they are updated regularly so that tourists can plan their days and not get disappointed time and again. I'd also suggest that Umbria's tourist office gets its act in order, and actively encourages such places of interest to open over Easter. Until then, I'd gladly spend my days at La Somma :)

“stunning mountain location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 May 2008

For a relaxing holiday and an oportunity to enjoy a part of italy with a family enviroment this is a super spot. Located in mountains it is an established centre by a family with a passion for horses and their surroundings. We stayed here for six days and thouroughly enjoyed the trecking through the many mountains with an Italian speaking guide Augustino and English speaking Clare we were very well taken care of and the breathtaking views and charming villages which had wild horses, wild boar and wild asparagus on their doorstep it was a refreshing change from the hecticness of a city.
Julia and Clara spoiled us each day with many courses of gorgeous Italian cooking my favourite was the wild asparagus risotto and wild mushroom pasta they use local produce and their own also. After hours on a horse we very much welcomed the care and attention this lovely Italian family gave us and yet we had space to enjoy ourselves also as our room was like a little apt, this is relatively simple not 5 star but perfect.
This might not be for the very advanced riders who want to be racing across mountains for hours the pace is more spread out but the horses which move along the little tracks like goats are good natured and gosh can they climb.
We climbed many peaks and views that were unbelievable some even compared to newzealand. We felt this was great value for money and enjoyed it being a small group 7 in total.(excluding guides)
The family made sure we always felt within easy access to spoleto and there was a restraunt a 15 min walk away but little else which was perfect as a great getaway.
Clare is super she will help anyone and explains any history of area etc and can help you organise your trip around your needs from what we gathered as we were a really mixed bunch of people.
check out the sites itineray for more as it is worth a visit.
