“Great family run hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Just returned from a weeks stay here with my wife. The dated interior simply adds to the character of a great hotel, well placed with very very good staff. The only downside for us was that the walls seemed to be paper thin albeit we were next door to 4 young lads! The food all week was excellent and nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. My sister and family stayed in the Olympic Village. more modern but in their opinion a little basic and soulless. If you're looking for somewhere convenient to stay with good food on your return from what can be a tiring day skiing, stay here - you won't regret it.

“Worthy 3* but due to the staff should be a 4*”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We stayed in Sestriere from 15/1/12 - 22/1/12
As previous reviews have stated, the hotel is in a good spot with easy access to the slopes with a free locker situated in a ski hire shop right on the slopes.
When we arrived we was greeted in a friendly manner and given the key to our room.the room was really small so my wife enquired if it was the correct room as we had booked a standard room.due to a mix-up in the booking process by the agents we were told it was the room we booked.unfortunatley another room wasn't available that evening but was told that the following day that if we left our bags packed, whilst we were off skiing our bags would be moved to another room, and this room was far better.
That is a measure of all the staff we encountered, and really made for a great stay.
The food was not always to my taste but was totally edible and plentiful. We left on a early morning flight and when I enquired about what the arrangements were for breakfast I was told that everything would be made available and they were true to their word.
As my wife and I are of the thought that the world is a big place and don't often go back to the same area,we may not be going back to this resort, but if we do,we wouldn't need to think twice as to where to stop.

“Great small and friendly, family run hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We checked into the hotel nearly 8 hours late due to our flight being delayed, but received a warm and friendly welcome from a really efficient and charming receptionist who spoke excellent English. This friendly service was consistent though all the staff at the hotel. We didn't have any problems with anything, but you got the feeling that if there had been anything they could have done they would have done. Our room was very small, but as this was what we were expecting it wasn't an issue for us, it, as well as the en suite shower room, was really clean. The food was really good and plentiful, the puddings were without exception excellent. The only issue being saving enough room so you could eat them. Breakfast was perhaps a teeny bit disorganised with things running out, but any time the staff was aware this was speedily rectified.

On a completely separate note from the service at the hotel, don't pay too much attention to the Crystal reps if they tell you that it takes around 2 and a half hours to ski over to Montgenevre, you can easily do this in an hour and a half. We opted for the arranged trip over by bus which cost €22 each, because the rep told us this. We easily did the trip across ourselves the next day. It felt as though the rep had told us it was tricky in order to flog seats on the bus. Our rep also didn't know about the international pass which you can buy which allows you to ski the whole Milky Way area including the French bits every day. Better information would have been that the lifts can and do close with little or no notice in Sauze, we were left stranded there one day waiting for a bus for an hour and a half which didn't show and had to get a taxi which cost us €80 for 8 people to get back to Sestriere. Top tip! If this happens to you don't wait for the bus, book a taxi and persuade other people in the bus queue to join you, I wish someone had told me!

The hotel has an arrangement with a ski deposit which is right on the bottom of the nursery slopes, and really close to two chairs up the mountain, don't be put off that the hotel isn't ski in/out because the service that this offers is fantastic. The staff were really good and took our skis and poles out each day - brilliant!

If Sestriere appeals to you, go and enjoy the Hotel Savoy Edelweiss, it's great!

Room Tip: Small rooms are indeed small, don't be surprised if it is really small. If you want a bath make...

“Good, Friendly, and Value for money”

Excellent stay in this 3 star hotel. The rooms are basic and small but completely adequate and well thought out for a week skiing holiday, with plenty of hot water clean bedding and towels and space for all your clothing for a weeks stay. The hotel should be proud of each and every member of staff as we found them very helpful, and always pleasant - nothing too much trouble.
There is storage at the hotel for ski equipment but they also provide on the slope storage for free. The food is good and plentiful. We would not hesitate to recommend this Italian family run hotel.

“Excellent Christmas Holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

We had a fantastic stay and wonderful holiday leading up to and over Xmas. From the outset the staff were welcoming, helpful and friendly - nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is ideally situated a few minutes walk from the slopes where their was a facility to leave our ski's for free - no long hauls in ski boots! The hotel is best described as traditionally decorated - dark wood, slightly faded grandeur. However it is very comfortable with a lovely lounge/bar area and bright dining room. Our room was very clean and warm. Though as reported here elsewhere the room and shower-room were as expected, small; however I have stayed in a lot worse! Cosy is perhaps a better description (there were 3 of us and it was fine). Food was generally good though some dishes weren't to everyones taste and a more child friendly option at times could have been good. Having said that for most of the week there were few guests so when the hotel filled up at Xmas the food variety improved. Xmas itself was great with the hotel and staff making it a special event.
The resort itself seems to get a bad press generally but we had a brilliant time. It wasn't very busy which probably helped but everywhere was friendly and the skiing excellent. The ski school was good with great instructors though some time was wasted organising groups each morning. We even went dog sledding which was a great experience but very hard work!
Overall we had a great holiday thanks to everyone in Sestriere and the Vialattea ski area, the Edelweiss, Luca and his Huskies and the Crystal reps for making it a memorable Christmas. We would certainly return to the Edelweiss and Sestriere again.
