“A great hotel nicely situated”

This hotel was our second choice for a weeks skiing holiday during the February half term holiday. We originally had planned to stay at the Banchetta but due to complications with sorting out the deposit we settled for the Il Fraitevino. I'm really glad we did. Our party of 3 dedicated boarders/skiers and one occasional skiier were very well suited with the location of this hotel - in the (quiet) central village square, 5 mins downhill walk to the main ski school and slopes whereas the Banchetta is located in old Sestriere - 3 kms away and seemingly accessible only by car/bus or chair lift. Our quad room was fine - not massively spacious (quad rooms rarely are) but ok for the time we spent there - clean, well presented and maintained. Breakfast was a good choice of bread rolls, toast, pastries, meat, cheese, eggs, preserves, coffee/tea & juice with freshly cooked omlettes, bacon and eggs. The hotel has a discount with many of the local restaurants, lift pass, ski hire and public swimming pool although there wasn't a plethora of local restaurants and the ones there were served mainly pizza (up to 84 versions on one menu !!) and most didn't open until 7-7:30 - great if there are two of you, not so good with young, ski-knackered children. The main Sestriere National Ski School is a little chaotic during the first few days but there are plenty of instructors (150) and some have great english. The pistes were also well maintained.

“I wish I could come back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2011

We stayed in Fraitevino for a week and really love it. Very friendly and helpful staff. The receptionists speak excellent English. Several times we ordered lunch boxes and they were ready at the time and carefully packed. We were really surprised by free safe box on reception and a computer with free Internet connection in the lobby. LCD TV in the room was considered a bonus as on the pics at the hotel web-site there were only ordinary small TV sets. Unfortunately no English channels, only Italian ones. The room is a little bit small but with a huge bed and new furniture. Big wall window faces the balcony and gives a lot of daylight. The bath room is very clean and has many accessories in it including massage oil. Towels and linen are snowy white and looks new. The hotel is located at the center square with all amenities at your fingertips. The hotel atmosphere is very cozy and home-like. Room service was offered twice a day. Breakfasts are really good - several types of muesli, eggs or omelette, lots of bakery, ham, cheese, fruits, juices, jams, hand made cappuccino. Our breakfast lasted about an hour and I wish it never ends)) Another pleasure for me was to read in the lobby with soft sofas and a book shelf. We spent excellent vacation in Sestriere skiing and touring around - lovely place, lovely people, and lovely hotel.

“Lovely hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2009

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Il Fraitevino through a Neilson booked snowboard/ski holiday.

I would definitely stay at this hotel if I'm in Sestriere again. We initially chose this hotel because it offers a b&b rather than half board service. This is much better for us, because we like to choose where we have dinner (especially in Italy where the food is so good!).

The breakfasts were ample consisting of the usual cereals, breads, cheese, cold cuts, croissants, cake, jams and other spreads. You could also have eggs freshly made (scrambled or fried) with bacon.

Because the hotel doesn't provide dinner, they offer discounts for most of the restaurants in Sestriere.

The owner and other staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. They all helped make our stay special.

The rooms were made-up twice a day! Once while we were out on the mountain and once while we were out at dinner. We were very pleasantly surprised to come back from dinner with chocolates on our pillows!

The rooms were warm, clean and comfortable. I'm not sure I'd rate it a 4-star, but it's certainly a high 3-star. Having said that, I think the rate is more than fair.

We'd highly recommend this hotel, especially if you want to sample the restaurants in the resort.

“really loved this small, family run hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2009

I would highly recommend this small, family run hotel.
The location could not have been better, less than 5 mins walk to the main ski-lift but yet situated on a quaint square in the centre of the village.
The staff were incredibly helpful and could not do enough for us- they spoke good english.
The bedroom was to a high standard (but not huge) with a very comfortable and nice wide double bed. There was a seperate vestibule/hallway for changing and a generously sized, immaculate, bathroom.
The breakfast was more than adequate with a good choice of continental fare and an option for a cooked breakfast also.
Although it was billed as a four star- I think it would have been the equivalent of a three star in the UK or Ireland in that there were no extra facilities such as pool or spa.

“Wonderful!”

We stayed at the Il Fraitevino in Sestrieres - the service by the proprietor was superb - it felt that nothing was too much - unusual for a ski hotel in Europe! The breakfasts were sumptuous, and the rooms were moderate in size but very clean and had a lovely balcony where you could sit and bask in the sunshine watching the world go by in the very picturesque piazza - or just adimire the beautiful snow-capped mountains, where the some of the Winter Olympics were held in 2006 ( very close to the pistes- five mins walk). Overall - I would definitely recommend this hotel.
