“Wonderful hotel, good food, friendly and capable staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

We spent a week at Berghotel Sexten for the second time end of September 2011. Our first visit was also for a week over New Year two years ago. Both times we were not disappointed and will return. In fact, this will probably become my favourite hotel. The hotel is comfy, warm, friendly, inviting, situated on a hill with a direct view onto Fischlein Valley. It is ideal for hiking, skiing, for families, for older people, younger couples and people looking for a romantic holiday. I don't think it is suitable for a party crowd or teenagers. They'd probably bore themselves to death, though all rooms have access to the internet via WLAN and it's included in the price. The rooms are big and well equipped. The spa area is a bit out-dated but offers an indoor and outdoor pool, saunas, fitness room and all is included in the price. There is a special area for children, though I never saw them playing there. Most of the time they were in the pool area. Food is delicious and versatile. Best of all, if you are a vegetarian it is absolutely no problem finding something to eat. Even if the menu has nothing for you, it is no problem asking them to make you your dish of choice - at no extra price! The wine list is great, the drinks affordable. I feel I have to mention both Andrea and Mauro as two excellent and especially friendly staff members. Even though I am a non-smoker, I should also mention that the hotel has a lovely and cosy room for smokers - not to be underestimated in winter! As I was told, taking your pet along is also allowed, but costs extra. The crowd is predominantly German or Italian and yet the hotel has a very international flair to it. Very recommendable.

“Beautiful mountain views, but construction noise, bad parking, and bad cancellation policy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

We were disappointed by our stay at the Berghotel, even though the mountain view from our porch was very pretty. They're building a parking lot right across from the hotel, and you can hear the noise (not too loud in the room with the porch door closed) from 7 in the morning to 6 at night. You can't just sit out on your porch during the day and enjoy the view. We also were never told when we checked in that we could park in the lower level of the parking garage under construction; we just found out by accident on our third day there. So, we had to squeeze our compact car into an incredibly small upper parking lot with no room to turn the car around. We were glad that we had full insurance on our car. Due to the 30-day cancellation policy, we couldn't cancel our reservation. The lady at the front desk, who we told about the construction noise in our room, even told me that I was wrong when I said I could hear the construction noise inside my room. Luckily, another much friendlier and more professional desk clerk was on duty at the end of our stay. The food was plentiful and pretty good. There is one computer in the bar area you can use (again, we were not told this and had to discover it on our own; the brochure in our room only mentioned wifi access in the hotel). The man at the bar was very friendly and helped us to use the computer. You can walk about 150 meters down the one lane road to Schaffer's to buy picnic food and drinks every day but Sunday. This is a good base for some really good hiking (about 5 minutes drive to the Via Fiscalina lift, about 10 minutes drive to the Monte Elmo lift, and about an hour total drive to the amazing Tre Cime hiking area with its amazing views). There is a webcam in the hotel lobby that shows pictures of visibility at Tre Cime and Monte Elmo. Once the construction is done, this should be a much nicer place to stay. Right now, with the high price of the Berghotel and hundreds of places to stay in the Dolomites, I can't recommend this place.

“Great Hotel with a View”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

We stayed one week in the Berghotel and had a great vacation, in one of the South East Appartments! The view on the beautiful mountains was simply breathtaking, not only from our balcony but also from the outdoor swimming pool or from the terrace where you could enjoy your after dinner cappuccino or grappa while the mountains changed colours in the evening sun. Food and service in the restaurant were splendid, and they offer some very nice local wines.
The hotels infrastructure is generally very good (swimming pools, fitness area, sauna,...). Our room had lots of space but the bed was not the best on our journey unfortunately, that explains the rating (very good and not excellent, keeping in mind the price you pay for one night).
Several possibilities for hiking starting straight from the hotel.

“Nice with lots of facilities”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

We had a ground apartment in the apartment wing. Nice, friendly, cleaned every day and the view to the Dolomites was fantastic. The hotel offers a large indoor and a small conneceted outdoor pool - very good. Wellness area also good - however not for kids under 14 which expelled my 11 year old sports daughter from training in the fittness room . Service fine. A minus is the fixed menu - if you want to eat at the hotel restaurant - it´s a 3 course dinner only. Not good for families with children = the days we did not cook we went to restaurants in town. Overall recommendable and good value.

“A fantastic place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2010

We spent 5 nights here in June with two children ( 10 and 15Our room was large, light , clean and attractive. After a days walk in the mountains to come and use the excellent saunas, steam rooms, spas, (so many to choose from) and then have an aperol on the balcony watching the peaks turn pink as the sun sets was truely magical. The surrounding geography with lush meadows, mirror lakes ,clear running streams all close by, was picture book quality. The food at the Berg Hotel was an unexpected pleasure. The quality and freshness (and abundance) of local produce and dishes was amazing. We had the same waitress , Luisa, most nights and she was excellent. The area was described to us as a mixture of Austrian efficiency and Italian hospitality and that is a very apt description. We cant recommend this place enough.
