“Gorgeous hotel”

Hotel is clean and tidy and room was simple but spacious. Staff were extremely helpful getting my mums medication in and out of the fridge at the bar with no complaint at all. Food was great, lovely choice at dinner of local and traditional dishes. Didnt sunbathe down at the pool so cant comment on that but spent most of our time on the top terrace. Lovely views over Sorrento and nice and quiet to sunbathe in peace. Ordered lunch from up here and they brought it up when it was ready which is a great service. Dinner out on the bottom terrace was lovely with a great buffet with lots of choice, and great music!!

Well worth walking into town which is not too far (about half an hour i think) with lots of photo opportunities on the way. Really loved this hotel and would recommend!

“Our 3rd time at this hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

This is our 3rd time at this hotel. What makes this hotel outstanding for us, and worth a return visit is the genuine friendliness and personal service of the staff. The hotel is situated at the very edge of Sorrento, which was an advantage for us as the bustle of the town could be left behind or accessed if desired.
I think the rooms could do with a little tlc, but that wouldn't stop me staying here again. The rooms at the back can be affected by local noise such as a guard dog, a cockerill or two and a car park, with a light that went on and off during the night. If this may be an issue for you request a front room.
The meals are just right, with local specialiies available as well as more international meals. We opted for evening meal as we find that more convenient, but there are dozens of restaurants and cafes in Sorrento itself for those who want a choice. The hotel also runs a restaurant in the town called Cafe Latino, and that was very good, situated in a rear garden area off a street next to the cathedral. Pizza spot on!
We were staying near to the end of the season and it was getting quiet at this hotel, but not in Sorrento. Look out for weddings as we saw 4 the week we were here, including 2 in the cloister of St Francis church.
We have made use of the buses this time and the train in earlier visits; we also went on the ferry over to Naples. Tip: watch out for the traffice, especially the scooters!

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel are quieter.

“Excellent Holiday and Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2011

This may be only rates 3star but is a fantastic place to stay. It is situated central to Sorrento and Sant Agnello. The staff are top class, they are really helpful and very pleasant. Nothing was a problem. They work really hard within the Hotel and we cannot complain about anything. We would recommend this hotel to anyone, it was a fantastic holiday and the trips away with Thomas Cook, were really worth while. We would like to thank all the staff for all their patients and help during our stay. Thank you to Raffaele, Anna, Daniella, Vincenzo, Guiseppi, and the two very polite maids. Also, a big thank you to little Anna from the restaurant, who constantly put a smile on kieron's face.

Room Tip: Rooms to the front overlooking the pool are a must.

“Clean, comfortable and exceptionally welcoming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011

My Mum and I experienced a week at La Pergola, choosing it for the package price and reviews.

Starting with the good.....
The hotel staff are as welcoming and friendly as the previous reviews say they are. From the moment we arrived, the small hotel team knew who we were and catered to our needs and requests.

Breakfast was OK with reasonable choices. We went 'off menu' a couple of times in the evening and the hotel bent over backwards to ensure we were enjoying our 3 course evening meal. The fresh salad buffet was a welcome addition. Drinks prices were on par with the Sorrento bars. Raffaello the Head Waiter was especially attentive.

Our room was clean and comfortable, with a balcony overlooking the front. The decor was tired and dated, but it was an acceptable base where we could rest our heads at night. We did not poay the 50E charge for air conditioning, but the room was kept cool through the use of the louvred shutters. I believe the rooms were cooler at the front, so ask for these if possible.

The location was fine - about a 15 minute walk to the centre of Sorrento, 5 minutes to the local shops/supermarkets of Sant Agnello. 10 mins to the train stations for easy access across the area and beyond. As others have said, the side lane gets you to Sorrento centre more quickly.

The roof terrace was lovely - sea glimpses; a clear view of Vesuvius; sun beds; and a very comfortable shaded area to relax at the end of a tiring day. The hotel is small and you can either enjoy the peace and quiet (bar a noisy cockrell) or get to know your fellow guests.

The hotel is an excellent base for independent exploration - in 6 days we got to Rome (for two days); a tour of the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii and explorations of Sorrento. Public transport was cheap and on time.

The bad .......
There was nothing too bad, however the rooms could do with some updating. The front of the hotel offers better rooms to the back.

The staff at La Pergola really make the holiday a special one. The hotel lacks the facilities of larger hotels, but it has warmth and charm that more than makes up for the room finishes.

If we return to the area, we would return to La Pergola.

Room Tip: Email ahead and ask for a room at the front. It seemed to work for us!
