Although we did not see the TripAdvisor reviews before discovering 29 Taverna (actually our daughter discovered it during a summer stay) it certainly deserves the number 1 rating it currently has. The staff is small and wonderful: the proprietor is fun and engages happily with the guests as well as serving, the waiter (there is only one) speaks many languages and is extremely helpful with the wonderful menu. "La cuoca" (the chef) is, we believe, the owner's wife and seems to be assisted by an older woman who is probably the mother (his/her's?). That's it: four folks doing an amazing job with the cooking and service. We ate there twice, every dish was perfect and the courses were well spaced out -- happily because of the generous portions and the lovely ambiance. We like long dinners and that's the way it's done here. Reservations are needed as many locals seem to love the place. It is a small space but can accommodate a group of up to 8 at one table, and 4-6 at another. We did not have a reservation the first attempt and could not be seated, but made sure we did for the two following visits...and noted both times several groups being turned away. Do make a reservation if you are in San Remo and don't miss these wonderfully prepared traditional dishes, the very original Basil/Proseco apertif, and the lovely, leisurely service. Buon apetito!
