“Friendly family run Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Everything was very good. Loved the hotel and the people that were there. A fabulous time was had, the ski lift is just up the road and they will take you in their pick up (5 euros each) or if you like the warm up you can walk.... Food wasn't always what you would expect... some of it was lovely. Free wine advertised but we ordered white wine the first evening and we were charged for it, apparently only the red wine is free!!!!!! Saturday was busy as in most resorts, lots of children with instructors even the blue run down was choppy and not nice to ski. Overall I would go back.......

“Superb family run hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Hotel Martin is run by Max and his family and the service you receive is second to none. They cannot do enough for you and will always do it with a smile – we also found the same with all the Italians we met in Sauze. We were a group of 8 adults.

The hotel is extremely comfortable particularly the bar area and the fire is always going. Rooms are warm to the point of sometimes being stuffy but opening the door/window soon sorts this out.

The menu is varied and food plentiful. If there are things on the menu you don’t like they are more than happy to accommodate your requirements. They will even make a birthday cake upon request as we were celebrating whilst we were there.

Few things to help future guests:

1) water at dinner is not free (e2.50 per bottle I think)…not an issue but just good to know;

2) bring ear plugs with you particularly if you are a light sleeper as the bedroom walls are not very thick and some people like to get up early for the slopes (not us) or back late from the pubs (us)

3) the hotel offers a service of driving you too and from the nearest ski lift (approx 10 min walk in ski boots up and down hill) for e5 per person for the week – well worth it

4) Max offers ski and boarding lessons and is an excellent instructor

5) there is a bus (red line) that will take you every half an hour into the village (or down) or other ski lifts until 6.00 pm and Max also drives up Mon, Wed and Fri after dinner (approx 9.30 am) so you can visit some of the bars/pubs Sauze had to offer - try the bean bag seats in Mirras...

Room Tip: Rooms 103, 104, 105 and 106 are on the 1st floor and around the stair area so therefore may get more...

“Hotel Martin....Its a cracker.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We were a party of 3 blokes who stayed at the hotel Martin in Jan 2012.

The transfer from Turin airport is quick - about an hour and we were first off the bus, dropped right outside the hotel. We have sttayed in Sauze a few times and its pedestrianised so its usually a drop at the town car park and an uphill walk so this was a nice surprise.

The hotel reception and bar are lovely. There's cake / snacks on the bar, the drinks are reasonably priced (for the alps), the fire is great and its got a good atmos. Sky sports too which came in handy for the mighty Toon victory over QPR an hour after arrival....

We had a largish room with plenty of space for the 3 of us. Simple bathroom, extra blankets etc.. These were used as the room was a pretty cold through the night and before dinner etc. but the room was good and we never felt on top of each other during the stay.

The hotel is smaller than most we;ve stayed in which was a plus when it came to boot room stuff, getting boots on, skiiis out etc, and every morning the night guy was waiting to take us to the lift in his pick-up. This is a nice touch - the lifts are only a 5 minute walk but it was welcome first thing! He also does a ride back from the lift if you return around 4pm...

The hotel food is great - rather diverse but excellent, very tasty and plentiful. The house wine was included with the package and was very good.

The hotel staff are excellent. Very friendy people and most nights Max ran us up to Sauze after dinner without asking for thanks or payment which was greatly appreciated by us as walking up hill that far wasn't an option. Walking back after a few beers via the graveyard route is easy...just make sure you don't get to much momentum as you may not stop!

The snow conditions made for fantastic skiing but didn't allow us to ski down to the town which meant that we had to get on the lift back to town at the half way point. This, however, isn't really an issue as the hotel owner has arranged it so you can leave your skiis at Cici's house - the restaurant directly across from the half way point. This meant we could dump our skiis there at the end of the day, have a beer, jump on the lift, get a ride to the hotel, and next morning we had no skiis to cart around - we got off the lift at Cicis, put our skiis on and jumped back on the lift to Sportinia (which is were the Ski school meets).

The location may not suite the usual Sauze visitor who likes to go into town apres ski and after dinner as the bars etc aren't on the doorstep but I can't say I missed it that much as we had a free ride into town at night and a short downhill walk with a slice of pizza. Returning after a days skiing the options are the bar across the road or the hotel bar. The hotel bar was best.

We went on a couple of the Crystal nights - pub crawl..quiz etc.. which were all great - better than I expected.

Overall this was a great holiday in a very friendly little hotel with good staff and excellent food. you couldn't ask for more really - the fact that we paid quite a bit less than previous holidays in Sauze was a bonus.

Room Tip: Room on upper floor could be cold - ask for lower floors.

“Little gem,”

Excellent family run Hotel. 6 of us have just enjoyed a week ski holiday at the Hotel Martin, and we all loved it. Max and his staff are helpful and friendly at all times, we were all made to feel totally at home, tea, coffee and cake ready when we returned from the slopes, log fire burning all day, cosy bar and lounge area, home cooked food, and lovely clean rooms, what more could you ask for? We even had transport to and from the lifts. We are definately looking forward to a return visit in the future.

our group consisted of 5 adults, 4 early 20 s 7 teenagers and a 9 year old, We all loved Hotel Martin. The lifts are a few minutes walk away but someone is always about if you need a lift however it is a bit lazy as its so close. The lounge is so cosy and too easy to fall asleep in front of the fire. The 4 course meal is very welcome after a hard days skiing and even the pickiest of eaters would always find something.I don't know when Max finds the time to sleep as he is always there when you need him, running our teenagers up to Sauze or teaching our beginners to ski(he is the best) We had him guide us for 2 hours also and that was brilliant. The rooms are basic but very clean with an hairdryer in the bathroom. This hotel is very friendly just like home from home and we can't wait to go back. Hotel Martin is a gem and it would be tempting to keep it to ourselves.
