Stayed here from 2nd to 9th January 2011 and was not disappointed with the Hotel and would go back without any doubt.
Arrived midday at the airport following a delay from Birmingham, it took ages to get ski's/boards baggage through and you have to walk quite a distance to the coaches, the airport seemed very disorganised. Coach transfer took about an hour and 10 mins - wasn't a bad journey. Once arrived at Souze the coaches cannot go into the actual town, so you are dropped off just by the Tourist Information then your luggage gets put onto a small van and then you have to walk to your hotels with one of your rep's, this is probably no more than about a 10min walk.
Once arrived at the hotel we checked in without any problem and were given our room key which we had to change as it was a double room and we needed a twin, that was the only reason we changed. We stayed in room 22 which was larger than some other hotel rooms I have had, there was plenty of storage space, bathroom was excellent with bath & a shower. It also had a hairdryer but it was something out of the 70's and wasn't much good although it did the job in the end and saved me from taking my own hairdryer. It had no TV and was the first room I have ever had without a TV but didn't even notice it really. We also had our own balcony and could see the slopes. We were above the restaurant and didn't hear much noise at all from the hotel. I think there may be private apartments above it however and the people above us were very noisy but again this is not down to the hotel.
The staff were excellent, nothing that I can fault, they were pleasant, helpful and spoke very good English so the language barrier was never an issue here.
We stayed on a half board basis. Breakfast was served from about 8am to 10am and was the usual buffet style offering cereals, the traditional ham & cheese that you see everywhere in Europe, jams, bread and sliced bread for toasting (it was the slowest toaster in the world but again did the job in the end) biscuits and cake which was lovely with some jam. Yogurt, Juice, tea & coffee were also available. They do offer a cooked breakfast for a full English it was 8E but this is a substantial breakfast and I indulged (one morning) in a vegetarian version of scrambled eggs, mushrooms, fried bread and beans for 4E and again was very substantial.
In the bar when you come in from the slopes they offer free coffee and hot chocolate, cake & biscuits in the afternoon but this wasn't very well advertised, we only found out by chance because we had a drink one afternoon.
Dinner was served at 7.30pm and they clear it at 8.30pm which we discovered on our first evening as we went down at about 8.15pm and there was still food left but we were told that they clear up at 8.30pm. Dinner again was a buffet which offered ample choice even for a vegetarian!! They had the usual salad, rice salads, some cheese flans, the fries were delicious and they always had pasta dishes out together with meat or fish and I think one night there was a meat curry on offer. All the food was great that I had, yes it becomes a little repetative but you can deal with that for a week. On our last night they lit candles on the tables to make it a little different.
The location itself was probably a 5min walk from one of the chairlifts up quite a hill but I think there are buses that run around but we always walked then had a breather at the top. There are two chairlifts Clotes which is the nearest and the one we always used or Sportina. To get onto the chairlifts you do have to fight your way in, no one adopts the so called "queing system" - that only applies to the Brit's!! It is a nightmare and not something that I will miss. WARNING - It is coded differently here, the blue runs are the easy ones, then the red then the black, the green runs are the olympic ones so don't get confused!!!
The town itself has a few shops selling clothes etc, bars which offer "happy hour" between 3pm (or 4pm some of them) til 6pm or 7pm. There are restaurants but we never eat in them as were half board and a Carrefore express which closes between 1pm and 4pm which was quite strange and you get a very funny look from the staff if you walked in by mistake because the doors were kept open so I didn't realise. There was always a massive que in there as well. The take out pizza and crepes however were fabulous! There are also ATM's around the town.
To give you an idea of costs, the bars/restaurants all seem to be pretty much the same, we had (up the top) 2 hot choc's and 2 diet cokes which cost 11E, another time 3 diet cokes cost 7.50E, a pint of shandy & a diet coke was 8E it did seem to be cheaper than France by a few Euro's. Although a twix did cost 1.5E!! - do your shopping at Carrefore as it does work out cheaper for a can of diet coke in Carrefore it was 0.69E and in our hotel the very same sized can was 2.5E so it works out to be quite a difference. You can get a big bottle of diet coke for 1.89E at Carrefore!
The journey on the way back started early for us! The van comes to collect your luggage which you have to hand over this was at 5.15am and you have to be at the Tourist Information at 6.15am for the coach transfer so remember your way as you are on your own and meet your Rep's there. The van drivers dump your luggage which you then have to find in the dark (don't take a black suitcase) and take it to your coach. The hotel did put on an early breakfast for us though which was unexpected I just thought we'd be made to do without so that was nice. If you have a room bill make sure you pay it night before as there is no one on reception in the early morning.
To check in at the airport we were shown into one building then had to walk over to the main airport building. Once through customs (staff really nice) the airport itself had loads of shops - nothing very cheap of course and a few places to eat. It also has a little newsagents but again que's everywhere! Even to use the toilet!! There seemed to be ample seating.
Weather whilst we were there was mainly sunny but had a couple of cloudy days where visibility was bad, it also rained. They do have those snow machines on everyday but it was icy in some parts. It was better the further up you got. I didn't see it actually snow.
All in all we had a fab holiday and I would go back here. Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions which have not been covered.
