“It's two star for a reason”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2011

Stayed in the prata in Jan 23rd 2011 for 1 week there's no need for a detailed review basically it's a 50yd walk to the bus stop or a 800yd walk to the 1st chair lift, it's a 10 min walk from the coach to the hotel, book lessons with the red school at the welcome meeting and it's dirt cheap the blue ski school will tell u they are better but they don't say their 3 times more expensive! The rooms are basic but warm and dry I'm a plumber by trade and the bathrooms were ok the water pressure was adequate and enough hot water just have to let the tap run a while, the bars not cheap either but the rooms are cleaned daily and there's a wooden shed outside to put ski's and boards in which is locked on a night but no drying room! The two main reasons I wouldnt stat here again the noise from the nightclub opposite till 5am i like to party but everynight was abit much! The other reason is the food is edible but very poor same thing every night with chips and cold at that!! Get to paddy mcgintys Irish bar up the road have a word with Charlie the manager he put on free pizzas if we drank in there so we didn't eat much in the hotel it was that bad and happily paid £8 for a full English on a morning! Hope u find this useful I don't normally write reviews but def not a family hotel with the noise from the club and the food was so poor if we'd have gone just BNB it would have been better

“Huge room..Good location..Well done Neilsons!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2011

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a week from 9th January whilst on a snowboarding Holiday with Neilsons.
The hotel whilst rated as a 2* was much better than most of the Skiing accomodation we have been in. The rooms were huge with a shared balcony, clean tidy bathroom and two single beds. (We joined these together) which made sleeping a little uncomfortable but the beds themselves were comfortable.
The staff at the hotel were great, very friendly and always willing to help (and oftern memorise your drink you order at the bar! he he) The food was buffet style, breakfast was continental (minus the hard boiled eggs and croissants) but we never went hungry. Evening meal was again a buffet with a dessert. There was always plenty of varienty of food and my boyfriend who is a vegetarian was happy. The evening meal did get a little repetitive de to the style (chips, vegetables, various typed of salads) but again better than some other 2* hotels we have visited. The town has many restaurants and bars which serve food if this does not suit you.
Florida prata is a short walk up from the coach park. The resort is a coach free resort so you wither have the option to leave your bags in a pile to be collected by a van, or take them with you. Neilsons do not accept any liability for bags left so we opted to take ours with us due to tehvalue of snowboards etc. I guess this was a downfall but not teh end of the world. Further up hill and past teh majority of the bars is the clotes chair lift, teh ski bus also stops right outside the hotel and stops in the town (sometimes) and at Clotes and Sportinia chair lift...this was great! Towards teh end of teh week i did get a little tired of the walk but that just me being lazy!
Neilsons organised some fab excursions, the trip to Montgeneve in France and teh torch lit decent were great, we also went to the quiz night which was good, however i did expect some more 'resort' related questions (based on other ski holiday quiz nights i have been to).
The resort as a whole is great, Paddy's Irish bar was our favourite haunt, with good value Drinks (especially during happy hour), free nibbles and great live music on most evenings. The resort wasn't rowdy or full of lots of young people (which i think was the reputation it has previously had) on the Piste, the slopes (mainly red) but nice wide red and great, not suited to beginners but if you have had a weeks experience on a board (like i have) you will be able to get down dome how...dignity intact is another question! I had some one on one lessons which were a real help and i cannot praise the ski school enough, i cannot remember the name but the ones Neilson support and they wear red. I had to have one on one as there wasn't a group suitable for 'inetrmediate' in teh group lessons (bit of a downfall) but teh 1 on 1 attention was great and helped so much!

There isnt much else to say really, i probably wouldnt come here again as there are so many other reports to experience but when i run out...this will be on my list. Italy is great value and usually great conditions!

One thing to watch is at the airport, from my 2 trips to italy experience teh Italian airports are chaos, they are a little slack loading baggage and checking people in. This seems to be the norm.

Ciao! x

“Great Value, Great location”

Stayed at this hotel over Christmas - rooms clean and nice. Plenty of choice for evening meal.
Only drawback is that the Cotton club accross the way can be a little noisey, some nights I slept right through it but it woke me up occasionally.
The snow was amzing, powder every day and the resort wasn't busy so we were spoilt for choice with fresh runs and powder everywhere. Some lifts a little slow but a small price to pay for such a vast quiet area.
Plenty of bars and nightlife.
Must recommend

Such a hospitable great family, his brother has a bar in the centre and the restaurant in the old town has some of the tastiest morsels to ever have passed my lips after a day on the slopes.
Big thumbs up to them for giving us such Christmas day

“In Context Value for Money without a doubt”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2011

Took a punt on this hotel when I booked it just a couple of weeks before travelling as the latest reviews whilst positive were nearly 2 years old. Tarvelled with a mate and stayed week commencing 9th Jan.

My headline opinion is that for the price ( £296 for weeks half board) then we probably did better than expected.

As far as Suze D'Oulx goes had visited on two previous occasions so knew exactly what to expect.

I will keep this brief and in bullet form

- Hotel is in a very central location slap in the centre of the village . 5 minutes walk up the hill to the Clotes Lift . However, the free ski bus stops probably 40 metres away . They do tend to be busy first thing will people trying to get to Sportinia for ski schools but Clotes really is a short walk.

- Our twin room was quite spacious will plenty of storage room. There were no frills, no TV, only 1 electric socket between the beds but it was warm and clean . There was a balcony overlooking the square.

- Bathroom- Somewhat dated but certainly adequate. We had a small bath and an e shower over the top of it- not much room to move and the shower curtain was on your back as you showered which wasnt the most comfortable. Towels were not changed without request and there was a 2.5 euro charge for clean towels per change. As someone stated the hairdryer was from a byegone era but I dont use one so not an issue.

- Meals - Breakfast was a standard affair cereals, ham, cheese, breads, biscuits , tea, coffee, etc

- Dinner was a buffet , 7.30 until 8.30. To be fair I thought the food was ok, certainly never went hungry and you could go back as much as you pleased. Occasionally the main meat dish would run out. There was a decent choice of sald type stuff, usually a choice of at least 2 hot meat or fisdh dishes, an abundance of chips and plenty of pasta as you would expect. Some nice home made deserts were also on offer.

Staff - Top notch to be fair, all very pleasant and helpful couldnt find a reason to knock them.

Only issue was the ' Cotton Club' which is on the square that our room overlooked. They are open until 7am and the music was pretty loud and did disturb our sleep a little. Thats kind of out of the hotels control I guess.

Nielson reps- We booked via Nielson and thought the reps were decent. Several times a week they offer a ski guiding service for either half or a full day, people are split into groups dependant on ability ( or speed !). We were in the fast group and they sure didnt hang around ! It was a fun day with a lunch stop and it was a welcome relief from having to study the map. Some of our fellow holidaymakers were good company and we enjoyed the group skiing.

Equipment - pre booked ' superior' skis from Nielson. The ones we got for this were pretty poor but that was the highest grade we coud pre book. Ended up paying extra to get some decent racing carvers so if you like a good ski suggest hire when you get there or upgrade on the spot.

Resort - Not the party town it has the reputation for but plenty of bars to choose from , from a nice wine bar right through to the obligatory Irish theme pub. Cheap by comparison to French standards but expect to pay 3 Euro for a pint in Happy Hour and 4.50-5 e the rest of the time for crap Italian flat but gassy beer ! Luch on the slopes ( e.g. pasta / chips)probably around 12 e with a drink.

Slopes- Not a real challenging resort , great for intermidiates with an abundance of red runs. Even the blacks are not particularly tough. As long as the links are open there is a huge terrain to go at throughout the Milky Way and its good to spend a day in each area One warning is that the runs are poorly signed and its not difficult to lose your way expecially when the gloomy fog decends which it did on our first day, just made the last lift over to Sauze by the skin of our teeth. We had great conditions during the week although the temperature was unseasonably high and by the end of the week a bit slushy at the bottom, glad we didnt go this week.

In summary, the hotel was not The Ritz and yes a tad dated but what do you expect for sub £300 for a weeks half board. Great location , clean and tidy and food was perfectly plentiful and adequate. I wouldnt have a problem staying here again at this price.

“Nice Hotel, Great Staff & Good Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2011

Stayed here from 2nd to 9th January 2011 and was not disappointed with the Hotel and would go back without any doubt.

Arrived midday at the airport following a delay from Birmingham, it took ages to get ski's/boards baggage through and you have to walk quite a distance to the coaches, the airport seemed very disorganised. Coach transfer took about an hour and 10 mins - wasn't a bad journey. Once arrived at Souze the coaches cannot go into the actual town, so you are dropped off just by the Tourist Information then your luggage gets put onto a small van and then you have to walk to your hotels with one of your rep's, this is probably no more than about a 10min walk.

Once arrived at the hotel we checked in without any problem and were given our room key which we had to change as it was a double room and we needed a twin, that was the only reason we changed. We stayed in room 22 which was larger than some other hotel rooms I have had, there was plenty of storage space, bathroom was excellent with bath & a shower. It also had a hairdryer but it was something out of the 70's and wasn't much good although it did the job in the end and saved me from taking my own hairdryer. It had no TV and was the first room I have ever had without a TV but didn't even notice it really. We also had our own balcony and could see the slopes. We were above the restaurant and didn't hear much noise at all from the hotel. I think there may be private apartments above it however and the people above us were very noisy but again this is not down to the hotel.

The staff were excellent, nothing that I can fault, they were pleasant, helpful and spoke very good English so the language barrier was never an issue here.

We stayed on a half board basis. Breakfast was served from about 8am to 10am and was the usual buffet style offering cereals, the traditional ham & cheese that you see everywhere in Europe, jams, bread and sliced bread for toasting (it was the slowest toaster in the world but again did the job in the end) biscuits and cake which was lovely with some jam. Yogurt, Juice, tea & coffee were also available. They do offer a cooked breakfast for a full English it was 8E but this is a substantial breakfast and I indulged (one morning) in a vegetarian version of scrambled eggs, mushrooms, fried bread and beans for 4E and again was very substantial.

In the bar when you come in from the slopes they offer free coffee and hot chocolate, cake & biscuits in the afternoon but this wasn't very well advertised, we only found out by chance because we had a drink one afternoon.

Dinner was served at 7.30pm and they clear it at 8.30pm which we discovered on our first evening as we went down at about 8.15pm and there was still food left but we were told that they clear up at 8.30pm. Dinner again was a buffet which offered ample choice even for a vegetarian!! They had the usual salad, rice salads, some cheese flans, the fries were delicious and they always had pasta dishes out together with meat or fish and I think one night there was a meat curry on offer. All the food was great that I had, yes it becomes a little repetative but you can deal with that for a week. On our last night they lit candles on the tables to make it a little different.

The location itself was probably a 5min walk from one of the chairlifts up quite a hill but I think there are buses that run around but we always walked then had a breather at the top. There are two chairlifts Clotes which is the nearest and the one we always used or Sportina. To get onto the chairlifts you do have to fight your way in, no one adopts the so called "queing system" - that only applies to the Brit's!! It is a nightmare and not something that I will miss. WARNING - It is coded differently here, the blue runs are the easy ones, then the red then the black, the green runs are the olympic ones so don't get confused!!!

The town itself has a few shops selling clothes etc, bars which offer "happy hour" between 3pm (or 4pm some of them) til 6pm or 7pm. There are restaurants but we never eat in them as were half board and a Carrefore express which closes between 1pm and 4pm which was quite strange and you get a very funny look from the staff if you walked in by mistake because the doors were kept open so I didn't realise. There was always a massive que in there as well. The take out pizza and crepes however were fabulous! There are also ATM's around the town.

To give you an idea of costs, the bars/restaurants all seem to be pretty much the same, we had (up the top) 2 hot choc's and 2 diet cokes which cost 11E, another time 3 diet cokes cost 7.50E, a pint of shandy & a diet coke was 8E it did seem to be cheaper than France by a few Euro's. Although a twix did cost 1.5E!! - do your shopping at Carrefore as it does work out cheaper for a can of diet coke in Carrefore it was 0.69E and in our hotel the very same sized can was 2.5E so it works out to be quite a difference. You can get a big bottle of diet coke for 1.89E at Carrefore!

The journey on the way back started early for us! The van comes to collect your luggage which you have to hand over this was at 5.15am and you have to be at the Tourist Information at 6.15am for the coach transfer so remember your way as you are on your own and meet your Rep's there. The van drivers dump your luggage which you then have to find in the dark (don't take a black suitcase) and take it to your coach. The hotel did put on an early breakfast for us though which was unexpected I just thought we'd be made to do without so that was nice. If you have a room bill make sure you pay it night before as there is no one on reception in the early morning.

To check in at the airport we were shown into one building then had to walk over to the main airport building. Once through customs (staff really nice) the airport itself had loads of shops - nothing very cheap of course and a few places to eat. It also has a little newsagents but again que's everywhere! Even to use the toilet!! There seemed to be ample seating.

Weather whilst we were there was mainly sunny but had a couple of cloudy days where visibility was bad, it also rained. They do have those snow machines on everyday but it was icy in some parts. It was better the further up you got. I didn't see it actually snow.

All in all we had a fab holiday and I would go back here. Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions which have not been covered.
