“Lovely hotel, shame about one of the waiters”

We stayed at the Hotel Garda in early September 2011 in the beautiful resort of Lake Garda. It is perfectly situated between Torbole and Riva near a main road. However don't let that put you off as it was one of the quietest hotels we have ever stayed in! This may have been attributed to the fact that during our stay, almost all the guests were very senior in age. The room was spacious and well furnished. The food on the whole was very good particularly the continental breakfast. One of my my gripes however, was the swimming pool which despite being 35 degrees, was the coldest pool I have ever been in!!!

All the staff were helpful and friendly with the exception of one waiter called Giovanni. He was rude and very unfriendly. We were always polite and never once complained, but his attitude to other guests, most of whom were German, was totally different laughing/smiling with them. We thought maybe he disliked British and/or younger people. Either way, there was no justification for his behaviour. I was loathed to name him but his attitude in my opinion was so outrageous and blatantly obvious, I hope this review causes some embarrassment like he caused to us.

I wouldn't rule out staying here again but if it wasn't for the waiter, I would have given 5 stars.

“Excellant Hotel and food in a lovely area”

We stayed here for 2 weeks at the end of August, the hotel is in a excellent location it takes only 5 minutes to get to the lake front and about 20 to get to the centre of Riva walking by the lake front and about 10 mins via the main road. The Hotel is clean very well presented we stayed in room 506 walked out on to the balcony and had a stunning view of the lake and mountains. We stayed in a twin room it was small but was clean and nicely decorated with ample wardrobe and drawer space, The bathroom area is also small it does have a hair dryer however I would recommend you take your own it looks like a hoover nozzle and isn't very powerfull! Board Basis is Half Board The meals are delicious breakfast is self service and is a choice of cereals, pastries, fruit & yoghurt cheese, meats & bread and to top it off also a warm buffet breakfast. You will not go hungry! Evening meals are chosen when you go to breakfast, there will be a menu on the table of that evenings choices. The 3 courses are waiter service you have a choice of 3 starters, mains and desserts also there is a full salad buffet every night which you go help yourself to, every meal was presented beautifully tasted delicious and served to a very high standard we stayed 2 weeks and nothing on the menu was repeated in the full 2 weeks of us being there, you also get water and wine included with your meal any other drinks do have to be paid for. All staff are polite, helpful & friendly. Riva is a beautiful resort and easy to walk around you can also catch the ferry to neighbouring resorts. There are ample restaurants & cafe bars where you can get a bite to eat or just a drink or a delicious Gelato and watch the world go by. Whilst we were there we did day excursions to Venice, dolomites, Milan,Florence and Verona all excellent worthwhile and booked through Thomson Holidays my tour operator. Overall a fabulous hotel a fabulous holiday and lots of happy memories!!

“Return visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

Last stayed here in 2008 and have to say that things are just as good now as they were then. Hotel is well kept and clean, staff are very friendly and the waiters are extremely hard working. Dinner was very good, lots of choice and excellent salad buffet every night. Breakfast was equally good with plenty of choice including fresh frut and yogurt. Hairdryer was the type attached to the wall (take your own) and as before the air-con was pretty ineffective so had to ask for a fan as temperature was 35 C during our visit. Did not use the pool although it did look inviting and took advantage of the free bikes for a trip to Arco via Torbole. You will not be disappointed with a stay at Hotel Garda. The location is good for the marina, the lakefront and a great ice cream/aperitif shop called Flora across the road (yum)!!

Room Tip: Our room was 408 and was an unusual shape so beware rooms ending in
