“Not bad stay but not perfect”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2011

Hello,

we have stayed in Villaggio Calispera for 10 days and here is the experience.

Pros:

Nice placed hotel
Nice Sunset
Very nice see !!!!!
Own (beach)umbrella & camp bed
Tasty food
The staff is helpfull
We got everyday cleaning and towels
15 min to Capo Vaticano village

Cons:

Old hotel with old furniture [ The 3 stars maybe in 1995 ]
Very disgusting coffee from coffee machine [ so cappuccino and others are disgusting, the problems is coffee ]
190 steps to own small beach, but good for training :)
Italian animators doesn't speak English or Deutch, only Italian so no good for foreign families !!
Italian animators are guite lazy
Same and pure breakfast in Italian sweet style [ only 2 types of sausage and 1 type of cheese ]
The staff doesn't refill the food
Quite small choice of food in dinner
The hotel doesn't give all types of food in high season or if it's full villagio
[ if is not high season there is bigger choice of food which is more expensive ]
The Italian families make noise until 1:00 AM !
Extra 15 euro for air condition per day !!!!
Wifi internet for 3 euro/ hour or 15 euro/8 hours

If you want to make trips rent a car.

We stayed at Villaggio Calispera for two weeks as a timeshare guest. While the location was beautiful and the swimming pool was nice the rooms were as spartan as is possible to be. The beds were so hard we decided to sleep on the sofa bed which was at least soft.
At the time of checking in we were asked by English speaking Anna if
we wanted half board at 25 euros each so we decided to give it a try.The breakfast was nothing but a cup of coffee and a piece of bread and the evening meal would have been cheaper if we had gone a la carte. We complained and so were told we couldnt' havethe money back but could spend our remaining 50 euros on whatever we liked in the restuarant. We had the vino rosso delcasa and it was frizzy. The cheeky mnager told us this was quite normal for Calabria! I don't think so!
I was asked to pay eight euros for towels and when I asked for the sheets to be changed mid week as it was very hot I was told this would be five euros but I could wash them myself using their washing machine which also cost 5 euros! When I asked about having the room cleaned at the end of the first week I was told that this was not part of the contract with RCI. We'dbooked two separate weeks with RCI so surely room cleaning has to be done at the end of the week! Another thing we objected to was having to pay 4 euros each for their so called 'club' which meant use of the pool, the tiny little beach at the bottom of the cliff and entertainment which had all dried up by this time. The sun beds were removed the day before we had finished our holiday. I would keep away from here if you are timeshare!

“great villaggio with breathtaking sea views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2009

We spend 3 wks. The kids loved it and so did we. Check out the location on google maps. Rental car is adviceable if you want to see some of the area. Srvice is good from check in till check out. Management speaks good English and serviceman spoke German which came in handy. Our 2 room apartement was small and basically equipped (kitchen) and did the job. Our two young children shared a pull-out 2-persons sofabed which went fine. The seaview from the balcony is breath taking (sun-sets!). Waterpressure in the villaggio was shorhtly low at peak hrs late afternoon and we had a brief powerdrop late a night but both are understandable in southern Italy.
The villaggio had free and plenty car park space. Area. One of the two surrounding bays have stone/sand beaches. Swimmingpool with separate childrens part was good. You have to wear caps but so does everybody. There was a lifeguard, child care, available daily at Italian working hrs. The pool area itsself located on the tip of the cliff with great views. Restaurant/pizzaria/coffee bar(great)/shop was open all day and evening! Animation daily which was very good if you want/need/like it (music, shows, child & adult games, aqua jogging&stretching, shows at night which were very good entertainment. A steep stairway from the swimmingpoool area leads to a small stone beach which is very nice and romantic (chairs and sunparasols). It is connected around the corner to bigger public beach bay via a small walk over rocks. snorkling is great. watersports of all sorts you can rent. The beaches and cliffs caves are certainly worth a view also from the water. We also saw the surrounding by rental car. We went as far as Reggio de Calabria and taking the ferry to Messina Sicily, good but a two hrs drive. Our boat excursion to the islands near the coast including active vulcano Stromboli was also a highlight. Tropea city is the nearest bigger village/city and worth some trips.
This area is beautiful rough area with breathtaking sunsets and smaller beaches. The villaggio Calispera is complete and very afordable for what you get living on cliff with beautiful seaviews. The holiday package is complete if you rent a car and see some more of the area but everything is at walking distance. In short, a very good and affordable sun/beach holiday resort with great entertainment.

“A jem in capo vaticano”

I recently spent to weeks in this villaggio. It has the most incredible views of the tyreanan sea.
Some rooms are modern with air conditoining and some are not . Some rooms do not have air at all.
I would stay here again. The price is right and one really does stay for the views.
The owners are quite pleasant and there son Giovani is really nice.
Ask for the rooms with a view.
