“Another great stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

This is the second time to Reggio Emilia and second time at the Hotel Posta. I don't think we would consider anything else. It's in a perfect location, excellent rooms and service. Taking the bikes out and riding around this perfect little city is so much fun. We were driving and getting to the hotel was a bit of a puzzle, but eventually we figured it out. Luckily they turned the car around for us so we didn't have to back out!

“An unexpected surprise”

On a recent trip to Tuscany we decided to spend a couple of days in Emilia Romagna to check out the food of that area since we had heard so much about it. Reggio nell’ Emilia seemed the perfect place, located between Parma and Modena, and the Hotel Posta seemed the logical choice for that town. We could not have been more pleasantly surprised!
Coming into Reggio we were surprised at how large the town is but once you get to the historical center you would never know it. It has small town charm and appeal with big town amenities. Everyone rides bicycles and the hotel has free loaners for its guest. What a treat to get on a bicycle and go shopping all over town, and there is plenty of shopping to do in Reggio!
The Hotel Posta could not have been more charming or hospitable! Getting there by car is a challenge but it is well marked, just pay close attention and follow the signs. As soon as you arrive you are warmly greeted and immediately feel welcome. The hotel itself is a wonderful old building but with modern conveniences. Our room, a junior suite, faced a large piazza with a small balcony. There was always something going on outside but it was never a distraction. The space has extremely high ceilings, beautiful décor and a well appointed modern bath. The junior suite includes a separate sitting and sleeping area, all the furnishings are high quality and comfortable. The breakfast area was quite nice and the offerings for breakfast were ample and delicious, featuring the regional specialties such as Parma prosciutto and Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. Don’t miss the downstairs bar next to the reception desk! The fixtures are from an old pastry shop in Reggio and it makes for an excellent place to have a quiet drink from the well stocked honor bar.
All that being said, what really makes the Hotel Posta stand out are its manager, Umberto Sidoli, and his excellent staff. They all go out of their way to make you feel at home, answer your questions and help in any way possible to make your stay more enjoyable. A “must do” trip while staying at the Hotel Posta is a visit to the Sidoli family Farm, Cavazzone, where they make the world famous Balsamic vinegar of Reggio.
Cavazonne is a magical place for both its location and beauty. A short drive from the hotel, (the staff will help with transportation if you don’t have a car) this trip was the highlight of our stay in Reggio and possibly of the entire three week trip to Italy. The tour of the Balsamic facilities and the family’s estate and gardens was topped off by one of the most remarkable meals we have ever had in Italy at the Cavazzone restaurant. The setting, food, wine, staff and service were outstanding and the menu and dishes are designed to be complemented by their outstanding Balsamic vinegar! Make sure to plan ahead to include this visit as I believe they are closed on Mondays.
Reggio makes an excellent place to spend a couple of days if you are flying in or out of Milan. It’s an easy drive on the autostrada to or from Malpensia but regardless of where your plans take you in Italy, you owe it to yourself to include Reggio, the Hotel Posta and Cavazzone on your itinerary!

Room Tip: The Junior Suite was well worth small increase in price!

“The Heart of Emilia Romagna”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2011

The Hotel Posta is just a terrific place to stay. The only problem we had was finding our way into the city - there is really only one way in and one way out but once there it it's just magic! The staff are most helpful and always friendly. Our room was spacious and had a huge canopied bed. The breakfasts in the hotel are excellent and have a nice variety of selections including Parma ham from the region.

Reggio Emilia is the perfect place to headquarter for touring throughout the area since it is located right betwen Parma and Modena. There are several highlights in the area the first one of which is Cavazzone the agriturismo "farm" owned by the Hotel Manager Umberto Sidoli and his family. Umberto is passionate about the assets of his home territory and equally passionate about his guests enjoyment during thier visit. The evening we went to Cavazzone to see the porioduction process of making condimento style Balsamic vinegar, we had the pleasure of meeting Umbertos mother - a lovely and charming woman lives in a portion of the farm and who grew up here - the family has owned the hotel for some 500 years. The dinner also at Cabvazzone is just wonderful and highly recommended. The next day we visited a cooperative where Parmesano is made- it's a tour not to be missed.

The city also has a number of excellent restaurants within a five minute walk of the hotel, and Umberto and his staff can recommend places that will appeal to all guests. By the way, don't miss seeing the beautiful old meeting rooms on the third floor of the hotel, decorated with frescoes painted hundreds of years ago - just charming and very beautiful.

“A highlight of our trip to Italy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

Very nice hotel in a central location to tour Parma, Verona, & Bologna. Biggest highlight is the balsamic vinegar tour and dinner at the farm of the Hotel's owner, Umberto Sidoli. The farm is beautiful, the tour very interesting and the dinner was one of the best we had in all of Italy. They also arranged a Parmesan cheese factory that was wonderful

“A room with a view...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

Like the other reviewers, we loved this hotel and this city. The Posta is in the heart of the old city. Ask for room 238, big and elegant, and you will have a balcony that lets you look out on the piazza. You'll see it change from a deserted place with a few pigeons to a market to a place for friends to have a drink after work or celebrate a graduation or a wedding. Reggio Emilia is a charming place, affluent and stylish, but with a real sense of community. It's centrally located for visits to Parma and Modena and Bologna, of course. The hotel desk staff were helpful in giving us hints of where to park on our expeditions and suggested some very good restaurants in town. The food in the area is buonissimo and the breakfast in the hotel is very good.

Room Tip: Try for 238.
