beautiful property in the Tuscan mountains in San Franzano in Donato. Must have a car to get there. closest train station is 10 minute drive away in San Ellero. 4 of us shared a spacious 2 bedroom apartment. There was a lovely market in San Franzano (2 minute drive away) where we bought wine, fresh peccorino cheese, pesto, bread, fruit, etc. which we enjoyed while watching the sunset every evening from our private terrace. We took a cooking class there. cooking class facility is great with wood fired ovens. We made pizza, biscotti, home make pasta, crostini, drank wine and laughed with Benedetta and Carla our chefs. They went out of their way to make it an unforgettable experience. class and dinner lasted 4-5 hours and only cost around 65 euros. included an apron and recipes to take home. If you are going to Tuscany and are in a hurry, this may not be the place for you but if you want to relax and soak up the ambiance, listen to the birds and watch the sunset, go!

We’re a family with 2 very young children and stayed here for a wedding. First, this property was so beautiful. Nestled on a hilltop, there were sweeping views of the Tuscan countryside from every direction. There were 2 pools, one of which was more family-friendly. I thought that was great because the families with loud kids didn't have to ruin the experience for couples who desired peace and quiet. There was a restaurant on site, at which we did not eat but saw many couples and families enjoying dinner. There was also a cafe for breakfast and lunch. We enjoyed the delicious continental breakfast with lots of choices. We also returned for lunch one day, and the specialty salad was delicious. The cafe was well-situated and offered both indoor and outdoor seating.

There were several buildings with hotel rooms at the Fattoria. It looks like the main building (near where the Reception was) probably had some of the bigger suites, but I can't be sure. Our room (#69) had a nice terrace and again, beautiful views. One item to note: if you have difficulty walking this building might be a challenge for you. The rooms were well-appointed, clean and the staff had the 2 cribs we requested already in place when we arrived. The wedding we attended was incredible from beginning to end, though I did have a moment where I felt bad for anyone with rooms in the building that housed the restaurant. The wedding was outdoors and lasted for many hours, so certainly we would have had an impact on the guests' sleeping hour that evening (though no one complained so perhaps it was okay).

Because we were focused on the wedding we did not fully explore the property, but it looks like there are lots of opportunities to enjoy cooking classes, farm life, strolls, bike rides, etc. I would love to stay here again!

We stayed in an apartment for four nights with our daughter and her husband. While it was very difficult to find, even with a gps, we had a wonderful time there. Our apartment had two similar bedrooms with queen-size beds, a kitchenette with dining area/sofa, and one bathroom.
Unlike other reviewers, we had no trouble getting extra toilet paper. We just asked for it at the hotel desk and received more.
The food at the restaurant was excellent, the servers very helpful and courteous.
The views from our deck were breathtaking.

Stayed here May 2011. Booked a hotel room vs the apartment/residence building and that is the way to go it seems from reading other advisors entries. We did have maid service, plenty of towels, etc. The room was very large with a huge bed (extremely firm) and a nice bathroom. We had a private terrace overlooking the pool. The views were even more beautiful in person than the website pictures. The grounds were very well kept. Everything about the facility was great. However, for us, with our desire to drive around Chianti and to Siena our only full day there, it was just too, too, far. It was about 1 1/2 hours from Siena 1 way. I knew that from the Michelin website but add in the problems with finding it each time and it was a LONG WAY. We had major stress trying to find it each time we returned to the hotel as we did not have a GPS and it is absolutely confusing as there are NO Street/Road name signs posted. There are town signs with arrows at turn off roads but they are inconsistent and confusing too. The round abouts and big signs written in Italian with the Fattoria Usignoli name on them with a big U turn symbol that we figured out meant we had missed our turn were a challenge but I guess they saved us in the end. Do not try to find this hotel after dark.
It is a very beautiful place and the restaurant was nice with delicious food and wine. The front desk does not stay open very late and does not open until 8:00 am so if you need early checkout be careful. We missed our next mornings events in Pisa as the Front desk closed before we finished our dinner in the restaurant the preceding night and opened up long after we needed to be on our way the next morning. No one was able to do anything about this for us they just kept saying the person that handled that was not on duty and would not be available until 8:00 the next morning. So, that is what we had to live with.
