“Sophisticated and inspiring location for a first visit to Italy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2010

We had quite high expectations of Ravello and La Villette Apartments having read the other reviews and we were not disappointed. We were greeted at a fairly late hour by the friendly owner, us having failed miserably at the last hurdle to find the apartments despite good directions downloaded from their website! However we couldn't wait to get out there and literally unpacked the vitals and went to the first restaurant we came across, La Veechia Cantina where our first "proper" Italian pizza and a bottle of local wine really hit the spot. We actually returned to this restaurant twice during our holiday due to the fantastic views of the hills, the friendly service and gorgeous food.

On our first morning we ventured into the Piazza Duomo, the town square, where it quite literally took our breath away with the beautiful, heavy scent of blossom, the surrounding views of the hills and the very commanding cathedral, all bathed in warm sunshine. We spent many an hour sitting at the various outside coffee/food venues just people watching. We actually saw a wedding party gathering in the square before the big event at the cathedral itself.

We hired a car for the week and yes the mountain/coastal roads certainly make for much bottom clenching but it was worth it for the views!! However just be warned of the local drivers, they are very impatient with slow drivers (tourists) and will overtake you on a bend which can be quite alarming to watch. We would recommend visiting Positano, a truly pretty town on the coast. If you like busy towns Amalfi is for you, however, we couldn't wait to return to Ravello for peace and tranquility again!

Back to the apartments, we found them to be very comfortable and clean in a lovely location just 5 minutes walk from the town centre itself. The pool was cold but clean with stunning views from your sunbed, we had it to ourselves one afternoon, bliss.

The only criticism I would have at all with our holiday was in relation to our car hire. We were given an extremely basic map giving directions back to Naples Airport, with more detail we would not have come off the autostrade (motorway) too soon and driven around Central Naples for an hour and a half with little or no directions to the airport. When we stopped to ask a Policeman he apologised for his lack of English but did laugh and manage to say "you're a very long way"! If we had not have left Ravello an hour earlier than planned we would have missed our plane so TIP - buy your own map!

“Lovely little find and would definately go back”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2009

Our journey to Ravello was full of delays and stories we won't forget, and because of this we arrived at Residence Le Villette at approximately 3am Saturday (instead of 4pm Friday)... The family were very accomadating and welcoming despite having to come and greet us at this time in their dressing gowns :-)

The apartments were really spacious and cool (no air con, but didn't need it) The kitchen is basic, it's very clean. The Bed was massive and the pull out bed was apparently very comfortable. The bathroom was clean and the shower was good. We requested a patio, which I recommend, which has a table and chairs.. lovely for breakfast in the sunshine. The pool was cold, clean but secluded and quiet with great views across the mountains.

Residence Le Villette was perfectly located for the centre of Ravello, we were going to my sister's wedding and it was very handy for running my errands and meeting up with family in the town square. It was also great as my family could come and spend some time with us on the sun terrace and have lunch (from a takeaway pizza place a few doors away).

On the monday of our stay, some of my family needed somewhere to stay for 4 nights and the family from Le Villette were brilliant at such short notice to sort out a room for them.

Just so you remember to take a towel: You do get provided with towels, but we were there for a week and the sheets and towels didn't get changed.

Because of it's central location there are plenty of restaurants to choose from and takeaways and a couple of small grocery stores. I recommend Villa Maria for a romantic meal with a view or Cumpa cosimo for fantastic food and charming service.

I could go on... we had a fantsstic time here and would definately stay again and I think a lot of my family who stayed in hotels half board, if they did it again, would choose Residence Le Villette too!! :-)

“Basic but adequate”

We spent a week at Residence Le Villette in Ravello during very good weather. The flat facilities are basic, lacking comfortable easy chairs but the accommodation is clean and the people are friendly. One problem we experienced was that due to our flat being on the ground floor, the lady upstairs paraded across the lino lined concrete floor in her high heels making a significant racket especially when she came in in the early morning
Externally, the pool and sun terrace are well equipped and in good order.
Arriving late in the evening on our first day we were disappointed that Citalia, our travel company, did not provide a starter pack of basic provisions as the cupboards were bare of all basics apart from a box of matches and two toilet rolls. This left us to explore a strange town in order to get a meal. This is no reflection on the property but anyone booking through Citalia should be aware.

“Fantastic little place”

I have just returned from my first trip to Italy, having stayed for 1 week at Le Villette. This is a small complex of 11 apartments almost in the middle of Ravello - it is an excellent location. They are very quiet, there is some slight traffic noise from the valley which is the only criticism I have. The pool is clean, plenty of space to sunbathe on an adjoining terrace and the family who own it are very friendly. The views are fantastic even though you are not directly on the coast.

They also have 2 lifts so even if you are infirm/unfit/have heavy bags you can still get to all floors easily. The apartments are well equipped should you want to self cater, however the restaurants are all nearby and you can get great take-away pizza literally down the street! You can walk to two historic vilas and the area is generally very good for walking. We hired a car but be warned parking all along the Amalfi coast is limited and expensive - you can pre book a space at Le Villette for 15 euro a day which is not expensive for Ravello.

There is a music festival on during peak summer months which keeps Ravello buzzing, great atmosphere, live music, fireworks etc.... its all very Italian, no chips & gravy here, all the better for it as well.

  • Liked — Central location but very quiet with great views
  • Disliked — Slight traffic noise
