Ragusa Ibla is the place to be. In fact, we liked it overall more than any other city from Agrigento to Taormina. And Il Barocco was right in the middle, well positioned for any activity.

Room was fine, if a bit huge, breakfast above average and staff was excellent. Restaurant is Il Barocco, about a block away, which is top notch. Only problem is the parking, basically you find a teensy space on the street.

I completely disagree with peterandanna who trashed this place in a prior review. There was no 'meanness of spirit' at the Barocco Hotel or the restaurant of the same name. On the contrary, we were greeted with the same warmth and hospitality that we encountered throughout Sicily in both the hotel and the restaurant. The staff could not have been more accommodating or helpful. A young woman at the desk when we arrived took pains to personally research each and every question we had about the local restaurants and scenic attractions and this made our stay quite enjoyable. Our room on the second floor was warm, bright and inviting. It looked out over a garden lush with palm and fruit trees. The rich hills in the distance were lit by beautiful sunsets every evening. There was no 'cheap disinfectant' odor in our room. Instead, it was clean and fresh smelling. Perhaps peteranddanna were given a room in the basement because they had a dog. Guest dogs should be accommodated in a kennel, not in the guest rooms.

I took a group of 20 friends on a trip down the Tirrenian Coast and around Sicily. We rented a bus and driver. The bus could not enter the Historical Center of Ragusa, but the hotel sent vans to pick up our baggage and anyone who could not walk the short distance to the hotel. The weather was inclement , and there was a festival the evening we arrived. The police were unpleasant to the hotel staff, who ended up registering a well-deserved complaint with the mayor.. The hotel itself was charming and comfortable.

My husband and I stayed for one night in September in Hotel Il Barocco, Ragusa Ibla. The people working there were very friendly, it was a calm and relaxing place, even if it was in the center of town. It seemed that everything was thought of in this lovely hotel, it was so "bellissima", not too modern, more in a romantic style. The beds were a little bit hard as they seam to be everywhere in Italy (?). We had a lovely room with a big balcony and a french balcony. In the bathroom you could even find toothbrushs. It seamed very clean. The breakfast was excellent. It was served in a lovely room or on a terrazza. There was lots of fruits, lots of ham (even parma) and lots of cheese...lots of everything. Everything was very fresh. The only thing you could wish to be better was the bread, it was the same everywhere. Not bad bread but it could be better. Hard to find good bread in Italy. They only seem to serve real good bread on the restaurants. We loved Hotel Il Barocco and Ragusa Ibla, it was the best stop of our one week vacation in Sicily. We warmly would recommend it. Love to go back.
