LOCATION & FACILITIES:
4/5: Amazing hill-top village type location in a narrow, mostly traffic-free lane. (I say “mostly traffic-free” because one or more scooters seemed to take great delight in regularly zipping past in the early hours of the morning, waking me up unfortunately - but I won't hold that against the hotel!) This is such a cute, atmospheric little 10-room hotel. Because of the old-town location there aren’t such luxuries as a swimming pool but they make up for it in the lovely boutique-style rooms.
SERVICE:
5/5: Reception & restaurant staff were, without exception, all lovely and helpful. Great touch – we parked our car initially in the town car park a few streets away, and Tony very kindly took our keys, brought the car up, unloaded our luggage, and re-parked the car in a more convenient location for us!
ROOMS:
5/5: Gorgeous! Ours was actually in a separate building from the main hotel, up some steps and with our own front door! Cute little Juliet balcony. Freshly decorated, spacious and clean, with AC, mini bar, TV, well equipped bathroom with lovely complimentary toiletries, modern fittings and shower over the bath.
RESTAURANT:
4/5: Breakfast was an above-average Italian selection of fresh fruits, cereals, breads, cakes/ tarts, yoghurts, croissants, cheese, cold meats.
The hotel itself does not have the space or facilities to provide Dinner – however, the owners also have a Michelin- starred restaurant of the same name, about a 15-minute walk away, which is certainly worth sampling! The setting was amazing – it is situated in what feels like a cave but was apparently an 18th century stables. Food was of an exceptional standard – we had a 7-course taster meal, and it was a great experience.
THINGS TO DO IN THE LOCALE:
We were on a walking holiday with Inntravel and enjoyed exploring the area. We also just enjoyed strolling round the little lanes and soaking up the atmosphere. There is a mini Tourist train which was nice to enjoy for half an hour, but the commentary was all in Italian so we didn’t really learn too much! You would need a car to get here as the location is rather out-of-the way – we took a drive to Noto, which is a lovely city.
SUMMARY:
This was the 4th of 5 hotels we stayed in on a 2-week trip to Sicily, and I really liked it. It’s an excellent boutique-style hotel with first-class service and beautifully furnished / decorated rooms. I don’t think the town is big enough to warrant staying for more than a few days, but for a 2 or 3 night stay, I would thoroughly recommend it.
