This is an amazingly beautiful place to stay: cheerful decor, central location, flanked by restaurants, reasonably priced, and the standard breathtaking Positano ocean view right from our room. What made our experience exceptional was our hosts. These people are in the right business and show none of the jadedness one would expect from having to deal with tourists 24/7. I remember really feeling welcomed by the (gray-ish haired) lady in the breakfast room. Desk staff were professional and also good concierges. Miquel notably did us an amazing favour above and beyond his job. Overall, the hotel provided a warmth for us that we rarely felt througout our Europe trip.
On a practical note: getting around this cliff-side resort on foot, you use either steep stairs or walk alongside cars and scooters on a single-lane road. This is all pretty easy once you're settled in, but if you arrive in Positano by bus and you have luggage, it's best to ask the driver to drop you at the stop closest to the hotel and then wheel your luggage down the road. We recommend not attempting the steps with luggage. Also, if you have more luggage than you can comfortably carry, you can wait for a local bus that will take you directly to the Palazzo. You can also arrange either a taxi, or, if you prefer, call a porter service for your luggage, and then walk down the hill separately. It's not a far walk. This is no fault of the hotel's location; this is how everything is accessed in Positano. Also, the staff will be happy to fill in any blanks if you contact them. They all spoke good English.
At the hotel, the balconies are right next to each other, so we could hear all from the one next door when occupied. But I felt this was as it should be, plus, partitions are delightfully covered in bougainvillea for visual privacy.
Breakfast is served buffet style in a bright dining room with view, and for a small fee, it could also be delivered to our balcony.
It is a pleasant walk to the beach (don't really know how long a walk because we always took it very slowly and distractedly) and the front desk supplies beach towels.
