“Great find in Positano!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2011

Stayed at Hotel Pupetto in June 2010 at the advice of a local. It's the perfect hotel in Positano if you want to get away from the crowds, want your own private stretch of beach, and great service. It's on its own secluded part of the coast, just a five-minute walk around the cliff to the left of Positano as you look from the water. Lay out for hours at the not-crowded beach, take advantage of the 3 or 4 little local restaurants, and at night walk over to central Positano after the crowds have left. Since most stores stay open well past 8pm, you can still shop before grabbing dinner in Positano. This little gem of a find seems exclusive without the super-high prices of one of Italy's top 5 destinations. (Be wary of the dinner prices in the hotel restaurant though!) Arrive by boat to Positano then walk to the left along the little trail to Fornillo Beach.

“Would definitely stay here again!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

We loved this hotel and it's staff! Fabio, the hotel manager, and Vito, hotel staff, were extremely welcoming and always went out of their way to make us feel at home. This is the only hotel in Positano that is directly on a private beach. We were secluded from the main town area but the main town was easily accessable. This hotel is not for someone who has a hard time with stairs because there are a lot of stairs to get down to the hotel, although there is a way to get frmo the bus stop to the hotel without using stairs at all. The bus ride from Sorrento takes about an hour each way, but it is well worth it! Our room was nice and the beach was a perfect end to our European vacation. We will definitely return and arealready planning out trip back to Hotel Pupetto!

“Great little gem, excellent service and location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

We were upgraded to a superior room which was lovely as we had a pizza dinner for a pre wedding event also and hosted over 50 guests. The rooms are clean and basic but Italian in design with tiles and air con. The service was great and as its just around the corner from the main beach a nice private beach area for our guests to meet and mingle.

Room Tip: Deluxe room would be worth the upgrade

“Authentic Italian Hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

I love this place. The family that owns the Pupetto, are very accomodating. They keep the hotel immaculate. The hotel is located on the Fornillo Beach, which is the prettiest in Positano, and very private. The restaurant on the premises is also excellent. We had great meals every day.

“"Amazing View"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2011

This year in Positano was exceptional due to the unprecedented warm weather well into October. We again stayed at Pupetto Hotel even though the elevators were our of order. We understand that some people chose not to stay there because of that but it did not deter our enjoyment of the location in any way.
Pupetto is a very basic hotel. Rooms are clean but do not offer anything other than a bed, a mini refrigerator and a basic bathroom. There is no room service so you are on your own if you wish to eat and enjoy the stunning view from your balcony.
The family who operate this hotel are ok but nobody is really forthcoming with any kind of personality. They just function but do not offer any type of conversation or go overboard to ask how you are or if there is anything else they can do to help.
Therefore, it is truly a no frills hotel but worth every penny because of the relatively low cost and amazing location.
We found that the food in the restaurant was not as good as in the past and they only offered the wood oven pizza on weekends starting end of September which is odd since it is such a prime item on the menu and delicious and Positano is bursting with tourists at that time.
The beach is lovely but can be expensive if you stay for a longer term as the hotel does not offer any discount for their guests on the lounge chairs or beach towels offered at a cost of 7 euros per person per day.
Interestingly, one of the hotels at the top of the hill which we frequented in the past has always offered us a 10% discount in their hotel restaurant and even still do now whenever we visit as repeat restaurant guests as well as give us a mini bottle of Limoncello a popular drink in the region.
It is all about the small touches that people remember which keep them coming back. As much as we enjoy Pupetto, I can say that it is not about any small touches from any of the staff (mostly family) and have come to accept that. Never a free drink, fruit plate or little desert of any sort to say thanks for the business.
Assuming the price continues to stay low, we will be returning to this location simply because of the outstanding location, easy access to the Ferries which connect us to Capri, Amalfi/Ravello and the main town which has numerous shops, restaurants, grocery stores etc.
