“Wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

We stayed in this wonderful hotel overlooking the sea in July 2011. If you are looking for a Hilton, you will be dissappointed. However, if you are looking for a quaint, distinctive, clean place with among the best views ever, you will like it. I was glad to read other review which showed that most had a similar love of the place. We had adjoining rooms on the top floor and it was perfect for a family.

The host was somewhat shy, but charming and very welcoming and helpful. While every place we stayed in Greece on our trip had very welcoming hosts, that was not always the case in Italy for us (no one was rude, just a little less interested in making us feel welcome). However, the owner here was really great and helped make our stay very pleasant.

The only downside was the hotel is a good distance/height above the beach so if you do not want to/like to/can't walk far, this may not be the best location.

“Quaint hotel with loads of charm and second-to-none views”

I stayed at Villa Nettuno in the family room with my partner and my mother. The room was a great size for three adults and very affordable compared to others in Positano.

Super friendly owners made the experience memorable. The breakfast on the balcony was a real highlight.

There are quite a few steps into the town centre but the view makes it completely worthwhile. My 60 year old mother handled the distance fine. I would definitely recommend to others.

“Fantastic view and bargain”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

This is a small owner run business in Positano. The rooms are $80 euros a night- a real bargain in Positano. Our room was large and clean but simple, not luxurious. There is a small fridge, a table where two people can eat and a small balcony with a priceless view of Positano and the water. The owner is almost always there and is very helpful with suggestions for travel and restaurants. We weren't looking forward to returning to Naples by two busses and the Circumvesuviana train and the ferries to Sorrento didn't fit our time frame. He suggested a ferry to Salerno and the train to Naples. We did this and it was a wonderful ferry ride along the coast and an easy train ride to Naples on a fast train. He also provides beach towels. A warning for those who have trouble with stairs- the rooms are 89 steps (yes I counted them) from the street entrance so if steps are an issue you might have to consider a hotel with an elevator. Also there is no breakfast but there are places in the square where you can get breakfast.

Room Tip: There are only a few rooms but two of the rooms have a connecting door for families.

“A wonderful place!”

We absolutely loved our stay here! The view was absolutely the best! The owner was so very friendly and kind, a very special person. He spoke good English, but got my husband to practice his Italian, when he discovered he knew some of the language. He gave us a fantastic reccomendation for dinner close by, once of the best meals we had in Italy, and reasonably priced. The room was nice, with a gorgeous view and small patio, but there is a larger one with the same view, with a table and chairs. Bouganvilla everywhere! Fantastico!!!

“Staying in paradise on a budget”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2011

My wife and I are a young couple in our early 30's and had heard rave reviews about the Amalfi Coast in Italy. Using our Lonely Planet we found the recommendation to stay at the Villa Nettuno Residence.

The owner speaks some English and is very accommodating, giving good recommendations for restaurants and getting around the town. The owner's family has owned this villa for many generations and it maintains that old-world feeling. There are two types of rooms available lower level rooms with a shared walk-out patio or upper floor rooms with a small individual balcony that provides a stunning view of the Mediterranean and the town of Positano.

My wife and I stayed on the upper floor and loved our room (#24). Our room was not modern by any means but was very spacious and made our stay relaxing and comfortable. The only oddity is the bathroom which has a shower in a bathtub, however there is no enclosure so some water gets on the floor but we just placed an extra towel on the floor, problem solved. There was always plenty of hot water and the room was cleaned / made daily. Breakfast is not included however, the owner will offer to make you breakfast, but we did not take him up on this.

My only caution is not with the hotel but with the town of Positano, it is on the side of a mountain so there is lots of uphill / downhill walking involved. As budget travellers, we did not use taxis or the bus to transport our luggage (two large hiking backpacks) and my wife and I are in great shape and found the uphill climbing was challenging. However, by the end of 4 days in Positano we had lost weight and felt great due to the exercise. You can get around the town using the main streets however, there are many staircases that are shortcuts to get to the beach and can shorten the time spend hiking uphill.

Overall, great hotel for the budget traveller and beautiful place for anyone of any age to enjoy.
