“My daughter, Hannah and I LOVED this charming home away from home!!”

While booking this lovely hostel from Canada, I had mentioned to Cosimo, an employee of Brikette that it would be my daughter's birthday while there, and was there a place nearby where we could have a great dessert. He emailed back immediately that he would love to arrange a surprise birthday party. I thought that was so kind.
Once we arrived, we immediately melted into the place...our ocean view room was sparkling clean, towels provided and the beds were cosy. (I love the blankets lined with fleece...i must find one!) ...and Christianna's two little pooches were the sweetest little things!
I liked the fact that the hostel was high above the town...not just for views, but to have the joy of exploring all the many stairwells down to the sea. Plus being hikers, it was very close to a trailhead that we hiked. (I really recommend it!!)
Christianna, our host was a person I would love to call 'friend.' Very helpful and a GREAT cook...love your homemade chili oil!! And Cosimo who worked evenings really showed an gift for entertaining the guests.
To top it off Hannah and I went to a restaurant to celebrate her birthday, Christianna found out where we would be at and arranged a surprise dessert for us. So kind!
Also, an added convenience. The bus stops half a minutes walk to the hostel! Plus, you can catch the same bus which then takes you anywhere along the coastline.
I will definitely use this hostel as my nest the next time I return, as would my daughter.
I would say that this place is any age friendly and the price was really reasonable!

Room Tip: book the sea view with private bathrooms!

“Wonderful staff, great view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2010

The service and hospitality at this hostel makes it an incredible place to stay. Siblings Cosimo and Carla were exceptionally wonderful hosts and made it a very fun stay. It rained all day when we got there and there was not much to do but sit in and socialize and both Cosimo and Carla were very accommodating- they let one person use the usually off limits kitchen to make us all some food, they put up with us using their main computer incessantly, and they answered never ending questions about where to go and what to do, and how to get there. Honestly, I have never met such patient people in my life. Carla also makes an incredible breakfast for just 4 Euros. And Cosimo is the life of the party, always making people laugh and bringing out the drinks. They also have a great massage chair which we raced to get to after a long day hiking.

If I am not mistaken it is the only budget accommodation in Positano but that doesn't mean they take it for granted. The place is clean and comfortable. It is ideally located, very near the SITA bus stop, and it's also the place where you can get the local bus down to the beach or to Nocelle (where you start the trail for the Path of the Gods). And the view is just spectacular! Also, there is a restaurant nearby that not only provides AMAZING food, the prices are low and the service wonderful.

“Thanks for the spaghetti!! :)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2010

We stayed here for five nights this past august and were a bit worried because of all the bad reviews. Although the rooms are nothing special and there are no locks on the room doors, the views from the terrace are spectacular, the staff was so nice and helpful, and the atmosphere was really great. One of the guys that work there went WAY above and beyond his job duties and made us a beautiful meal of spaghetti with things we had bought from the market, and added his own flair to it. It was very nice and very appreciated. The woman with the dark hair who owns the dogs (cant remember all the names!) was very nice to us and very informative. The younger blond woman always made sure to help us when we looked confused about what our plans were, she always made sure we wouldnt be lost. As for the hostel itself, the breakfast they make is cheap and fantastic, and the bathrooms are bathrooms in a hostel, no one expect 5 stars when they pay 20 euro a night. All in all we were so glad we ended up going! Positano is a dream! Thanks again to the staff at Hostel Brikette!

“I have stayed in many hostels and this is the worst- by far!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2010

Backpacked around italy with friends for a few weeks and was really looking forward to staying in Positano. We were supposed to stay in Ostello Brikette for 3 nights, but left after 2! It really was a bad experience. My friends and I were put into a 10 bed dorm on arrival and the next day, staff had added 3 more beds.. which made it very cramped! There was no windows or air conditioning in the room - not even a fan! Staff put beds anywhere they could fit them, random people walked through the dorm at night, there were no lockers to store belongings or even a lock on the door for security! No hot water in showers, the place was noisy around the clock, there was a lock out period from 11am to 3pm when staff came into the room and literally shooed us out of the place! The only thing this place has going for it is the views from the terrace and a location beside a bus stop.

“Mostly bad”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 April 2010

This place is the only hostel in Positano, so there aren't any other budget options. It is close to the bus stop, has a great view over the sea, and if you love dogs they can be entertaining. But....

The lady on reception is rude. She rules the place by putting up signs everywhere, and if you do something wrong well then you should have read the sign. We were told we could use the kitchen so we bought groceries. When we went to use the kitchen though we were told the hot plate and oven were not wired up yet so we can only use the microwave. When we asked about this she said there was a sign saying we can't use the kitchen anyway so too bad we should be thankful for the microwave.
The dogs have free run of the place which includes the kitchen so if that bothers you then stay away. The nearest internet place is down by the beach, a steep walk down and back up. No toilet seats, the showers were only luke warm. I think it is called hostel brikette because it adequately describes the beds and pillows. They are bad bad beds.
