After we finished up the first week in Rome we headed over to Naples by train and took a car service booked through Hotel Poseidon to the hotel. Had a great driver who was able to give us a little bit of Positano history during the drive. I have been fortunate enough to have visited many beaches growing up, none of them have been as beautiful as the Almalfi Coast. My husband, who has family in Italy, was last at the coast when he was a teenager and his stories of the color of the water and size of the lemons were all true!
Positano offered the most peaceful part of our honeymoon and I'm so happy we choose this town over others we'd looked at.
Poseidon is situated mid-hill, if you could call it that, so the walk, as compared to other hotels in town is not nearly as painful as it could be. I'd suggest using the winding road, vs. the stairs...that we only figured out on our second to last night there! One thing is for sure, if you do the stairs every day you will be able to eat whatever you want, not feel guilty about a thing and still go home with tonned legs!
The hotel offers a lovely breakfast, warm and friendly staff and a fabulous restaurant. The pool is very quiet, which is exactly what we were looking for. I'm not so sure this would be the most family friendly place to stay as it appeared to be honeymooning couples or those visiting without their children.
Our room, the "funny room" not sure why it's called that..was spacious, with a bathroom that was accomodating, and had the most amazing terrace. I contemplated sleeping out there it was so beautiful. During the day you have the most spectacular view of the town and as the sun goes down it's lovely to sit on one of the two lounge chairs provided and read or have a cocktail. At night the hills light up and twinkle in the darkness. We were very lucky that it didn't rain at all while we were there and the moon was extremely bright shedding a perfect glow on the ocean...
The only downside to the hotel, and this is very very minor, the spa services could be updated a bit. The spa staff is so friendly and lovely that it almost doesn't matter but I booked a pedicure on our last day there so that I could go home with a fresh tan and fresh feet, and it was a bit out dated. I sat on a wooden chair that reminded me of something in my Italian grandmothers house, (had to giggle at that) and put my foot onto the estheticans lap, I was told that the spa pedicure (45 EUR) included a great leg and foot massage, which it did, but it only lasted about 5 mintues...it's a far cry from the cushiony massage chairs we have in the US along with a 25 minute massage... All in all a great experience and one that I won't ever forget, but not exactly what I expected. Part of me wishes I'd have gotten a massage like my husband who had wonderful things to say abou it...
Don't let my spa review turn you away from Poseidon, it's amazing and we hope to vist them again in the near future...
