“A perfect introduction to the beauty of the Italian Riviera!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

La Fenice is a dream. Everything about it, from the rooms, to the views, the breakfasts, the location, and the owner and staff, are perfection. My daughter and I arrived late on the evening of October 8, after a long flight from Houston and then a long drive from Rome, and although it was dark when we arrived and the views would have to wait until morning, we were immediately impressed with La Fenice. Costantino, the owner was waiting for our arrival and came right down to open the gates for us and carry our luggage down to our room, which was literally set into the cliff on the opposite side of the narrow, winding mountain road that cuts through the beautiful town of Positano. The room was immaculately clean, the bed was comfortable, and as a bonus we had a small sitting room in addition to the bedroom, and a spacious bathroom. There were windows everywhere, and the view of the Tyrhennian Sea from the bedroom, which I knew would be stunning at sunrise, almost kept me from being able to finally go to sleep after a quick unpacking session. The next morning did not disappoint. The early October weather couldn’t have been more perfect (sunny and cool), and the only thing that could have improved waking up to such beauty was the gorgeous breakfast served by Costantino’s sons up on the breakfast terrace, across the road, outside their family home. Fresh figs picked right from the trees on the terrace, warm croissants, agave jelly with fresh yogurt, and all the delicious coffee we could drink…all while still enjoying the amazing view. Our days in Positano staying at La Fenice were the perfect introduction to the beautiful Italian coast, and I would highly recommend this little slice of paradise to anyone looking for a quiet, beautiful bed & breakfast with amazing views, just a stone’s throw from Positano. A word of warning to the elderly or infirm…there are LOTS of stairs, and they’re steep, (especially from the road up to the breakfast terrace) so take that into consideration when booking here. But if you don’t mind a bit of exercise, Costantino and his family are the perfect hosts and you’ll love every detail of La Fenice.

“Fantastic Views, Service, and Exercise”

From the moment Constantino greets you realize you have made a great choice for your Positano stay. La Fenice offers the best of the Amalfi Coast with the added benefit of peace and quiet (except perhaps for a neighboring rooster and the welcoming cackle of geese). The resort is set on both sides of the cliff side road just steps away from the main part of town. We had a two room unit with a central bath--which was absolutely perfect for a family or three or four, as parents can have one room and kids have the adjoining room. The unit also had a fabulous private deck with postcard views.

Delicious breakfast was served every day a top the cliff in a common area and terrace where the views were even more amazing. This area also had wifi, and was perhaps the most pleasant place on the planet to catch up on email if you needed to. My daughter counted 133 steps from our room to the summit, so bring walking shoes. And worry not, Constantine and family won't let you carry your luggage up and down the stairs. And they even park your car for you.

“Cosy&Friendly with the Charm of Southern Italy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2011

We booked 2 connected rooms for 3 nights in July. Everything was smooth, rooms simple and clean, food tasty and owners receptive to our demands. Constantino called 3 restaurants to find us a table one busy night. Would come back without hesitation.

“Great B&B in Positano.”

We stayed for 4 nights there. Location is great, with a private beach, pool, and walking distance from city center. Constantino and family are great hosts, always ready to help and providing tips on where/how to go. Don't expect luxury or 5 star services, but you won't find a better location for the money. It's even better than staying at city center. Just be aware that, as all of Positano places, you'll climb lots of steps, up and down.

“Perfect way to know Positano”

It was our 4th visit to Amalfi Coast, and the first one to La Fenice. As many reviewers have already said, this place is not for you if you're used to 5 star hotels. In fact, we're also staying mostly in good and very good hotels, but we liked La Fenice for its authencity and friendly hospitality. The rooms are really spacious for Italian standards, the breakfast plentiful and fresh. Constantino and his family are genuine hosts, nothing was too much for them, no matter what we were asking for. The big plus is a swimming pool with its remarkable views and a small beach. Really a luxiry for Positano.

We liked: Constantino and hois family and all their animals, especially Barack
our spacious room with the view
the pool and the beach
fresh figs every morning for breakfast

We didn't like: moscitos and ants, they were really many
steps, steps, steps. Unfortunately, unavoidable if you're in Positano
