Stayed here for the first time in September 2011. Overall, this is a very nice hotel and definitely a bargain in terms of pricing for Positano, but it could be better. My sea view room (€160 including a better-than-average breakfast) was very nice and comfortable, though rooms on the left side of the hotel (as you face the sea) have a better view; the right side has some roof obstructions. There are several caveats to note about this hotel, however:
• This is definitely NOT the place to stay for anyone with impaired mobility or limited stamina. There are a lot of steps to climb and there is no way around them.
• Don't come here with a car if you can avoid it. I had to do so to avoid a strike in Italy but parking in Positano is a hassle. When I asked the hotel where to park (by both fax and email a week before arriving) they did not respond, which is no good. When I arrived they insisted that I park in a specific garage (Garage Monaco), which I had a tough time finding and required circling around the town at least twice. This hassle could have been avoided If they had told me what to do in advance.
• The AC unit in my room was somewhat feeble, took about 4 hours to cool off the room. In Positano, AC is a must.
Otherwise, this hotel is very good. Excellent location, very quiet, and management and staff quite friendly and helpful. Knowing what I now know (!) I would be happy to stay here again. Definitely much better than my last stay at the highly overrated Hotel California (see my previous review).

Reasonably priced for Positano. Fantastic views. Extremely helpful owner. Convenient parking up the street with valet that drops off your car at the hotel (even at 5:45am). Our room and bathroom were a nice size and had a tub/shower combo. We had a less expensive room without a great view, but used the breakfast terrace to relax with a view in the late afternoons and evenings. Delightful!

I know I am going against the majority of reviewers here but our experience at this hotel was less than satisfactory. We found the management attitudes towards paying customers to be appalling. I consider myself a pretty fair reviewer as can be seen from my previous hotel reviews but this hotel stay was beyond the pale in more ways than one. Suffice to say we will not be back. Good points however were the great staff who bent over backwards to us after witnessing our treatment on more than one occasion and the fabulous views!

When we walked into our room and the bellman threw open the double doors to our terrace, the view took my breath away. Positano is beautiful, and having a lovely hotel room where you can sit in the sun and enjoy the spectacular view, first thing in the morning to late at night in the moonlight, is perfect. Do go for the superior double with a large, comfortable terrace (standard rooms have a small standing-room only balcony).

The hotel is located near the top of the town, 71 steps up from the main road (there is only one one-way road thru town, below the main highway.) When you arrive, send someone up to reception and they will come down to fetch your luggage. To get to the beach, it's over 300 steps down, or you can follow a more gentle path along the road to the center of town.

The room itself was clean, simple and comfortable, with lots of closet space and hangers. Good lighting for reading in bed, a good air conditioner that could be regulated so it was cool but not freezing. A decent hairdryer in the bathroom. Breakfast was fine, not lavish but adequate - juice, a bit of fresh fruit, a large bowl of plain yogurt, canned fruit cocktail (!), cereal, meat/cheese/tomatoes, bread & a few pastries. There was also a menu from which you could order additional items for a charge - eggs, pancakes or french toast, fresh fruit,etc. which we did most days.

Aside from the view, the other outstanding aspect of this hotel was the service - very friendly and welcoming, and happy to assist with dinner recommendations, reservations, travel plans, beach towels, etc. There are a couple of good restaurants on the main road right below the hotel; we enjoyed a dinner on the terrace at Cafe Positano and don't miss Scirocco, up in the hills (they come to pick you up).

We loved our stay at Casa Albertina, didn't want to leave!
