Note that this is no ordinary hotel. It is on the very nothern end of Positano and is hard to see in the pictures of Positano. It is built from the beach up to the main road, each room has a sea view terrace with views of Positano as well. The only question is how large your terrace is. Some terraces are so large you can't possibly use the whole thing and some so small only a table and two chairs fit. The hotel is divided in two. The beach side, with a funicular, and the pool side (with restaurant for breakfast) with two elevators. Rooms 1XX to 5XX are on the elevator side and rooms 6XX to 7XX are on the funicular side. Note that everyone uses the funicular to get to the beach and it can take 5 minutes for the funicular to arrive. We choose a room on the elevator side partly because it would be faster to get to and from breakfast (room service for breakfast is 20 Euros per person) and partly to get to our room when returning from downtown. Do be sure that the room you are given is the room you booked. The hotel dropped our rate by 70 Euros when we questioned them about room size. Our room was recently renovated, very clean (as was the entire hotel) and comfortable. The pool and beach staff are happy and helpful. The reception staff can depend on the person; Raphael is lovely and was very helpful, but some others just seemed to want to be rid of you. The reception staff are not very forthcoming with tourist information and the hotel could use a full time concierge to help guests with excursions. Do all your research before arriving. Internet is not included; we stayed 7 days so paid the 25 Euro for a week of wi-fi. The shuttle buses are on time and there are often two at busy times. Don't expect any conversation from the the drivers. Check your bill carefully when checking out. Our 70 Euro discount was not calculated correctly. Note that whenever you sign for food, at breakfast or at the pool or beach, you will be charged. There is no amount on the form you sign and staff will tell you they don't know how much you are being charged. The hotel should really try to improve this so that people know what price they are signing for. You don't see the charge until checkout and its very difficult to understand the Italian itemized list.
We enjoyed our stay very much. We did not miss staying in the town because we had fabulous views at the hotel, it was quiet at night, and the shuttle made it easy to get to and from downtown.
