We were met at the ferry terminal in Ancona by a friendly gentleman who did not speak English, but gathered us up with our ridiculous amount of luggage and drove us to the hotel. Of the nine hotels we were visiting on this trip, I felt I knew the least about the Hotel Internazionale. We had actually chosen it only after the nearby Fortino Napoleonico was fully booked - a very fortunate circumstance! The Internazionale is on a hillside with spectacular views from its rooms and dining areas to the Adriatic and the surrounding hills. We arrived early in the morning and so sampled the generous buffet breakfast while waiting for our room to be readied. All areas of the hotel are spotlessly clean and well-maintained. The restaurant serves sophisticated cuisine and the wait staff is friendly yet formal. Our room was well-furnished and spacious, with a large terrace facing the sea. The grounds of the hotel are brimming with flowers and the beaches are a 10-15 minute shaded walk downhill. Lots of restaurants on the beach, chairs and umbrellas for rent - a very lively scene. The front desk is usually staffed by a member of the family that owns the hotel - not a great deal of English is spoken, but this is more than compensated by friendliness and a desire to please. I very, very highly recommend the Hotel Internazionale.
