“No crowds, just views”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2010

What a beautiful location, we had been staying at Lake Como for a few days, although stunning it was extremely expensive for a room. Spent a week at the Arcobaleno with Riccardo and his staff, we took the advise of the staff and caught the train to Pistioa and Florence, The Dinners were always a nice surprise, home cooking and lots of it. Thankyou Riccardo, if we ever return we will stay with again.

“A wonderful hotel in the hills of Tuscany”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2010

We had driven from Nice to Florence with no reservations. We were not impressed by the hotels in Pistoia, so we decided to head into the hills. By about 9:00 p.m. we still had not found anything. Our GPS (Microsoft AutoRoute on a Minicomputer) showed a hotel a bit off the main road and we called the Arcobaleno and they had a room. Out GPS and signs guided us down ever narrower roads right to the Hotel. The room was actually a two bedroom suite but the price was the lowest of the trip. The next morning we were treated to a wonderful view and spent the day in the charming little town of San Momme and relaxed by the pool. The next three days we drove into Florence, which took a little over an hour leaving around 10:30 or 11:00 in the morning. Unfortunately it took about two hours to get back in the evening because of the traffic.
The hotel is not shiny and new but it is clean and comfortable. The only bad thing I can say is that they have no Internet access (although they did offer to let us use the computer at the reception desk). The service was great and the two dinners we had at the Hotel were wonderful. The breakfast was the typical bread, cheese, and thinly sliced meat. They had a machine that produced an adequate cup of coffee. The manager really went out of his way to make it a very pleasant stay and after a hot and hectic day in Florence it was great to go back to the cool and beautiful surroundings of the Hotel Arcobaleno.

“Dont use the gps to get there!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2007

Very isolated Hotel, i got some real chilly vibes from "The Shining", when I saw the place. OK rooms and facilities, but so far off anything else that I wouldn't recommend it. Actually we booked it by mistake. When trying to drive there , coming from the west, we followed the gps blindly (BIG mistake), uphill on steep, narrow roads, who only got smaller and smaller, until the road just ended in a forest. We saw an old track in the forest, so we decided to walk a little bit and see. And there, on the other side, 200 metres further by foot, was the small village and the Hotel. But we couldn't use the road thru the forest as it hadn't been used for the last 30-40 years (all grown over with grass and what not). So we had to go down to the valley again and take another shitty, steep and narrow road uphill. When we finally got there, the hotel manager told us that there was a much easier way of getting there, some "main" national road of sorts that you should drive off and basically get there. So, if you DO decide to go there: find the hotel website, and try and follow the driving directions there instead. Or find yourself another hotel, next to SOMETHING.

“overpriced extras”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2006

The location is really nice. Its right in the middle of the mountain, sorrounded by trees and a very small village. The hotel has a big swimming pool and a tennis court, although we were surprised to notice at the end of our stay that we had to pay 5€ for each time we had used it.
The breakfast could be a lot better, its only cereals and toast. The room was quite noisy: some buzzing sound all night through (air conditioning kind of noise) and also the corridor noise in the mornings as well as the bells from the church.
There is no lift wich seems ok for all of the french families staying there: not much of a couple place it seemed to me....
The room service wasn't all that good, one of the days they 'did' the bed all forgetting a t-shirt and the tv remote control within the sheets...
They have this crazy parrot that screams every morning. There is not much water pressure and the toilet and room we had (number 202 for 62€ the night) was very very tight: the bathroom door wouldn't open completely because it bumped into the bed, and getting into the bathroom wasn't that easy either.
The supper I found soooo overpriced. We tried the menu the first night because it seemed to be the right thing (everyone else was there) so we had 2 choices for the first course and two choices for the main course. the food was not really bad but poor (reminded me of food at school). the waitress even carried too many plates at once so the food on one plate was touching the bottom of the other plate... and we were charged 20€ each apart from the drinks!!! we found it really expensive. Much better eat at the local pizza place, 2 people eat with desert and drink for 20€...
