Antonella and her husband Carlo are just charming people. My wife and I just spent 10 weeks in Southern Italy and Sicily and Baia Scirocco B&B stands out among the highlights because of a great location on the sea, a lovely family: Antonella and Carlo and their two daughters.
When we arrived late in the afternoon, Antonella offered us something to drink along with a fresh baked cake which was wonderful.
We wanted to go to dinner at a restaurant outside of town and were concerned about getting lost and returning in the dark. Antonella said she would take us to the restaurant (5-10 minutes away) and that her husband would come and pick us up and bring us back to the B&B when we were finished.
When we finished our two hour dinner (25Euro each, multi course meal), the restaurant called our hosts and they drove out and brought us back. No additional charge even though they used their car and 10-15 minutes of gasoline. How kind and caring is that!!!
The accommodation at the B&B was marvelous. The home is built on the side of a hill overlooking the ocean, a lovely spot. The separate unit where we stayed was very nice as the owners built the house and accommodations for the B&B.
Breakfast was one of the best of our trip and that is saying a great deal. Antonella went to the bakery and brought the two of us 4 croissants, fresh rolls, fresh bread, cereal, yogurt of various flavors, fresh orange juice, fresh cappuccino, a fresh baked apple cake, fresh jams and marmalade and honey. The breakfast took up the entire table. In 2 1/2 months of travel in Italy, the only time we saw a breakfast like this was at 4 star hotels. That should say it all.
The price for the view, breakfast, room and dropping us and taking us to the restaurant should have cost much more. This was the best value of our trip.
If you want to visit the beautiful forest on the Peninsula, it is only 15-20 minutes away. The village of Sant Angelo is about 30 minutes away and is wonderful to explore. The peninsula is so beautiful and wandering the country roads away from the coastal road is worthwhile. We stayed only one night but I would suggest two nights and enjoy the peninsula of Gargano. The breakfast and kindness of Antonello and her family you will not find any better anywhere else in Italy.
The B&B is hard to find. We had a GPS and it took us to their street but the street dead-ended. We did not realize they are on the side of the hill where the street dead-ends. You actually have to take an unmarked road around to the front of their house. So you have to call them when you arrive in town and let them lead you to the house. It is worth the journey. The Peninsula is beautiful, do not miss it. We have taken many trips to Italy for 1 month, 2 months and 2 1/2 months and many shorter visits. The Gargano peninsula is a special place. Try to visit in May, September, avoid the crowds of summer and go offshore to visit the little islands.
Antonella, Carlo, her two girls, the breakfasts and the Peninsula are worth it.
Antonella and Carlo do not know much English but do not let this keep you away. The two daughters are teenagers, one plays the piano and they have studied English for many years. they can help with the language if you do not know a little Italian.
Come to the Peninsula of Gargano, stay with Antonella and Carlo and explore the area. During the summertime you can take a boat to the off shore islands for a day. We were not here during this time period and were not able to do this, otherwise we would have stayed longer.
We spent 3-4-5 days at many places and regret that we did not stay longer. Breakfast and dinner were an experience.
