“Beautiful get-away with fantastic hospitality”

Casale Giancesare is a truly fantastic place to stay for those looking to find a very quiet spot in a gorgeous house, situated in the Southern Italian countryside overlooking the sprawling countryside out to sea. The place really is remote and you will have to rely on your own transport to get around (and won't appeal to everyone hence the three star rating on 'location' above) - this is well worth it however - the pictures i took on my various moped exursions are postcard worthy!

The charm of the place really is the incredible hospitality offered by the Voza family. I have visited Casale Giancesare a number of times and even though I don't speak Italian I have dined with the family, tried the wine they produce on their own vineyard, gone sailing with their daughter, Federica and clubbing in Salerno with their son, Antonino. It really has a brilliant family feel to the place - everything you could possibly hope from a traditional Southern Italian break.

“Unforgettable food and gracious ambiance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2010

Three months later, Giancesare remains in my memory as the most enjoyable and pleasant stay I've had in many weeks of traveling Italy, both North and South, not the least reason being the fine and agreeable people who hosted us.

“Should I share this place?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2008

Set on a hillside overlooking its own vineyards and pool with upper-storey views to the Gulf of Salerno beyond Paestum, the Casale Giancesare is a cosily renovated farmhouse owned and run by the Voza family as a B&B and apartments.
Our family of 4 (kids aged 6 and 3) stayed 2 weeks in the wonderfully airconditioned apartment 1 and waking up to the view from the top-floor window was a delight. As was returning home from daytrips in the surrounding area (Pompeii, Naples, Padula, Maratea, Amalfi) to the clear blue pool or sipping drinks on the terrace that overlooks it. You can even try home-made limoncello or wine made from the grapes grown on the vines below.
The atmosphere is extremely relaxed, especially considering the crowds that swarm this part of Italy in the summer, sometimes a little too relaxed, but we felt like honoured guests in a welcoming family home.
Nothing is too hard, as long as you remember to ask and most things are possible for a little extra, including the laundry.
We decided to pay extra and join the other guests for breakfast - well worthwhile, not just for the caffé latte but to exchange tips about visiting the area (eg how bad is the notorious traffic along the Amalfi coast, how cool is the top of Vesuvius).
Similarly the "table d'hôte" dinner, a meal of regional specialities cooked by the Vorzas for all the guests one night was fantastic, absolutely not to be missed, even if it stretches your budget.
It was a little hard to locate on the first night, but we felt that for the price, the season and the location or simply for its charm, the Casale Giancesare was a real find.

  • Liked — the view, the family-friendly atmosphere, the hosts, the airconditioning, the pool, the independence, the beautiful garden, the tranquil room
  • Disliked — mosquitoes, the bathroom was up some dangerous stairs, there were some odd things, eg no broom in the appartment, no dishwasher
